Think the term is so-cal punk

Blink 182, Offspring, Wheatus, all have pop-punk vibes. greenday have always seemed to tred those waters, though seemed to have gone back to punk roots with songs about the US government.

Probably started off the emo movement, with songs about lovelives breaking up(see new found glory and offspring)

In the latter years, before emo took over, main bands were New Found Glory(the stuff from 1999 sounds emoesque), Sum 41 and Alien Ant Farm(who themselves switched between nu-metal and pop-punk)
