With the dreaded holiday, new consoles and my current TV taking 25 seconds to realise HDMI actually exists, I need help finding a TV..

- Don't want a Plasma
- 46-48" (LED)
- LG/Sony/Samsung
- Smart / Wifi / Etc
- NO 3d. At all. 3d is evil
- £699~

I've been looking at:

http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/tv-dvd...lg-47ln578v-smart-47-led-tv-21326033-pdt.html

Also, able to exploit a mates staff discount, but no idea:

http://direct.asda.com/LG-50LN575V-50ins-Smart-TV/000506385,default,pd.html

But I have no idea if it's good or not. The instore has the 3d version for +£100 and will order in the non-3d version.. But, rather know what you guys think/opinions on anything else that could be better.

Cheers guys

EDIT: If it requires a perma net connection

Still not many 48" LED that can match picture quality of a plasma like the TC-PST50 or Samsung PSE6500.

Models like the Samsung UNF8000 or UNF6000's are pretty good picture wise. Smart TV I am not UK so have no idea what is best in that market. I've played around with the Panasonic and LG Smart interfaces and in general I find them clumsy at best.

Found this guide on Tech radar
http://www.techradar.com/news/television/6-best-smart-tv-platforms-in-the-world-today-1120795

May help with the decision. :)

You almost certainly won't find a TV that size that doesn't have 3D, but who cares? Just don't use it. From personal experience, Samsung, however the "smart" features in most smart TVs are a waste of time with lousy support; I certainly wouldn't make my buying decisions on that (with mine the only smart app that gets regularly used is Skype).

NB. I don't know for certain but I'd be surprised if your mates' staff discount is worth more than about 5% on electricals. There's feck-all margin. I get 5%, (compared to 30% on homewares for example) except on Apple where I get...nothing.

The BBC app on Samsung TVs is great, good quality video and fairly easy to use. ITV/C4 apps work okay most of the time, but it's something I generally avoid - as being forced to watch adverts is annoying when you're used to recording to skip them.

As for the rest, I agree - they're mostly useless.

I live in Ireland so I don't get the iPlayer app. We get an RTE one instead, which is shite. Annoyingly we don't get the 4OD one either, even though 4OD works in the Republic. Stupid Samsung.
