Turning off the direct message popup thingymajigs!

After reformatting I'm just trying to update with all the Win Xp security stuff and everything. I'm being bombarded with the admin type messages sent over t'net - the grey box things. I can't for the life of me remember how to turn them off, I know its just a case of disabling something.

Can anyone refresh my jaded old bastard memory please? TIA

hmm isnt it the messenger service that you need to turn off.

Adminstration tools --> Services

Locate the Messenger entry and set it to "disabled"

Btw if that is your only computer, or if you dont use windows printer and file sharing Then turn off windows printer/file sharing

also take a look at BlackViper's Windows XP Services Config page, you can free up extra memory by disabling un-needed services.
