A central Line Tube train was derailed today at around 2:30pm

More details here

I left home around 3pm to get onto the central line and none of them were running.

I am very pleased I was feeling lazy today and didnt venture out earlier.

Glad to see no one died...

The London Underground is a joke.

I'm so glad I only use a bit of it to go to work at the moment. Come April I won't be using it to go to work at all.

I disagree.

I think the Underground is pretty good really.

It is very old and does need a lot of work done to it.

This is the worst accident in something like 15 years. Thats not bad going.

I just hope the mess is cleared up by monday else its gonna be nightmare getting into work

London is suppose to be a modern city, one of the greatest in the world.

It's Tube system is total and utter bollocks. Small cramped trains and no air conditioning. You can't even use your mobile phone on them yet FFS!

Perhaps you need to visit some 3rd world cities...

You'll appreciate London more.

heh, that made me giggle SG, thanks.

You make it sound like going on a train is a major expidition, like sailing the Atlantic or something.

:)

That's ridiculous. We should be among the world leaders in city transport, yet we have a pathetic undergound system.

OMFG ! I was going to go uptown today with my son, to visit The Tintin Shop in Covent Garden, we would have been using the Central Line about that time !!!

Decided against it and cleaned the windows (glass ones, not XP), close call.

The Tube smells nice.
Other underground systems are crowded too.
Air conditioning is dangerous; and it makes the platforms really really hot :/

We need to improve "the tube technology" for the people on the streets.

Commuting on the tub isn't a great deal of fun, but it's ok. Using it to get around london, like now and again is pretty good actually.

Yes, I was on a northbound train into town when it was anounced that there was a 'fire scare' on the central line, and so there was no service between Marble arch and Liverpool Street. There was only minor disruption, but thats because I could easily reach my destination, I wouldn't like to muck about getting buses though.

Naturally they dont word it that 'there has been a train crash at chancery lane', so as not to alarm people. I read somewhere that they have similar procedures for bomb scares, for instance in Kings Cross, 'Would Inspector Sands please report to a member of station staff' is the code for some kind of bomb scare, or other such incident. Someone had caught onto this, as he had heard the same anouncement a handful of times, and wrote into the Guardian, where all was explained.

I've been on the tube when the announcers say due to a security something or other, the station must be evacuated.

Well, it was something slightly less dramatic.. but security was mentioned..

when we give out information at work (signaller) we just refer to it as an incident

Most modern underground systems are Airconditioned - both the trains and the platforms.

Exactly like Jo'burg.

You cant go anywhere except by Car. Which is causing all the roads to be completely jammed up.

Even if they introduced an underground system, the public said they wouldnt use it due to safety concerns and that they would rather drive.

Now if everyone in London decided to drive and not use the tube it would be utter chaos!

The Tube does need modernising and has perhaps been left too late for this but it is still one of the best in the world.

There are not many cities with such a system. Most you need a car.

London is also very different as it has more people than most other cities in a very small area. (Excl places like Tokyo)
