Most of you here may not have heard of Codename Eagle - It was a commercial disaster. Only through word of mouth has its innovative, humurous, and generally FUN nature come to light.

Admittedly, the single-player is rubbish. But the multiplayer ROCKS big-time! Especially on lan! There is nothing quite like it. This is mainly because it has vehicles. Lots of them. From zeppelins, to tanks, armoured cars, bikes, helicopters and fighters, it has them all!

The really unique thing about it however is the physics engine. It is one of the most realistic ever created! Bridges can be destroyed, planes and vehicles moving are modelled accurately, and you have to take account of gravity when firing shells.

This makes the gameplay online truly unique. There is nothing like charging into the russian base with tanks, stealling the flag then making a hasty gettaway in a stolen chopper with death dealing rockets. Trust me - As soon as you play it you will be hooked.

The other thing about it is the friendly-ness of the people playing it online. It is one of the best atmospheres around. Everyone is friendly, and cheating is virtually non-existant. The specs in terms of internet connection are low as well. I played it on a 56K for months.

I advise you to try it. Right now ;)

Download that and the V1.41 patch, install the demo then the patch and away you go, as long as you have Gamespy Arcade or 3D.

No I wasn't bribed. Ce really is brilliant! Just try it, I can virtually guarantee you'll be hooked.

It's the one thing you can't give up - many have tried, but failed ;)

Even if u dont like the look of the screenies u should download the multiplayer demo and then patch it (u then have... ahem... the full... cough cough... game) as its grapthics does not do it much justise. Belive me i know for a fact that nearly all people who try the muiltiplayer (patched version mind you) loved it... and u dont know what your missing. Even major reviewers (like pc zone, gamespy for instance) are regretting the fact that they gave bad reviews of the game after getting reminded of ce with DICE's new upcoming game Battlefield 1942. Yeah ok single player sucks.. i know that. (even though some may disagree) But please give it a chance. If u do like it please, please post here to try to pursuade your community to give it a try.. and even pop into our famous community (made famous by a couple of yanks sending pizza and coke everyday to the ce devlopers in sweden!) and say hi.

i heard that CE has a big community
unfortunately i read a 1-page review of it and never gave it a chance.
just getting the demo now, hope its as good as you say....
and when you say patching do you just mean the official update from the website?

just got the demo and lots of patches, except the game is still fucked and wont run. I cant get it to run with my voodoo card, and cant seem to select invert mouse either. the community forum doesnt have solutions to these problems either :mad:

The voodoo problem - thats VERY famous. Its a bit of a bug in Ce. Try running it in 640X480 16bit (the lowest setting).

The invert mouse thing doesn't work on the demo I believe...sorry.

The patch you want is the V1.41 patch:

To patch:
1) Unzip the files in the .zip to a temporary folder (IMPORTANT! Do not just unzip into the Ce folder, It won't work!)

2)Copy the files into your Ce folder, replacing all existing files.

They do, but I dont. And after that hard sell I dont really want to know. their long spiel really, really makes me want to spite them by simply not trying the game. ta.

Yep. Codename Eagle rocks.
I've been playing it for ages, and it still is just as fun.
I also played CS for a long time, but I've gotten so sick
of all the cheats. That's another good thing about CE,
no cheats :D
The community is just about the best part of the game
though. Everyone knows eachother, and we always
know what we can expect from the different people :)
It's nice to have people you know gathered, especially
when just about everyone is nice to eachother. Unlike CS,
which is more like "fuck you", :upyours: etc.

I've created a website about the game which has been running
for quite some time now. Always trying to find some spare time
to work on it. Check it out. It's at http://www.cenation.net.

If there is something you can't get working, I suggest you
check out the forums and post there if you don't find a sollution.

I'm also a bit surprised that foxy didn't mention the promo movie
that some community members made (Bows to Sucka and Killa).

This movie is simply amazing, and takes you through some nice
stuff. It's simply a must-see for both people in the community
and outside. See it and I will be pretty sure you check the game out :)

Sorry about not linking to the promo Rex, but I haven't actually seen it, so it gets brushed under the carpet by me a little.

Btw: the voodoo card error in Ce can be 'fixed' by running in Direct3D mode (in the options menu)

heheh, I only just looked at this thread coz I thought some gimp was saying Windows CE was fantabulous so I took a wide berth. Unfortunate thread title there.

I did actually play the multiplayer demo of 'ce' but never managed to get it to work on meh lan, it looked amazing though but at the time I couldn't be arsed to warez it and buying gaming products is a scarce option to undertake. I will however see if I can get it cheapo now it's been out for donkies years, it does look like a superb multiplayer game with grand landscapes.

good job that man for putting this game in the spotlight, though I have no idea why we have a whole thread devoted to it.

I too, thought this was about Windows CE. :)

Downloaded the mp demo based on the views in this thread and am not impressed. Very slow, very jerky, very basic landscapes. Performed badly even when I hosted a game with just me in it.

Plus ASE and the in-game browser could find no games in the world. Maybe its different for the full version but it doesn't bode well.

I won't be rushing out and buying it.

First of all you need gamespy to find games. Secondly its probably jerky because your running win 2000 or maybe win ME.

Yaaaasssss I am not alone with this curse,,, I live a fear that this option will slowly get uncoded from game releases, so to speak.

oh, and what Chippie says is a bit wrong. Win2k, WinXP etc is
just fine to run the game.

Actully when u run on win me the game is more jerky compared to 98..... plus you CAN invert your mouse from the configure keys button.

ffs! Just buy the frickin thing! It's about 5 quid now. In the full version the mouse is invertable. Oddly enough, I learnt most of what I know about Ce from the demo, and I hate non-inverted mice..... I think I'll dig the demo out and have a fiddle with it for you.

BTW - I'm British.
