Ohh and how, everytime 'death birds' comes on my fps goes no higher than 10:p Last time out, it was pissin me off so much, i droped it to 640 res in a window, and played it in a screen no more than 6 inch's wide. Did my fps improve? well yes, but by no more than about 4-5 frames, in other words, jerky as feck still:p

Yeah the FPS annoyed me a little bit. Mind you, I downloaded the WickedGL drivers last night (for my Voodoo 5) and it's now working a lot better.

I can now choose between high detail and a high(er) frame rate. Though, not both at once. :p

Well I get little or no bugs, I run 800x600x32bit with nearly every option turned on including mapping and vertex lighting and it rarely drops below 60fps in a packfight, averages 80-120fps. T2 is a next gen game. Remember Quake1 when it came out? Ran like shit on my p90 which was a good machine at the time. You now have 3 choices.

1) Buy new hardware and stfu.
2) Go play something else and stfu.
3) Just stfu.

I`m happy, lots of people are happy. Telling everyone how unhappy you are because this next gen game won`t run on your bogstandard kit only keeps you unhappy.

(This isn`t directed at Aaad in particular but everyone who incessantly whines rather than doing anything positive)

I've got no reason to moan about T2 anyway, I'm only suggesting a possible (temporary) fix for people who'd like to see it run a little better. A positive action, I feel. :)

After all, I was the first person to agree with you after you wrote this post.

So, I completely agree. Yes, things 'could' be better. But, if you can play the game, play it. If you can't, you have my sympathy, cos, it's a bloody good game in my opinion.

T2 is great but there are loads of serious bugs witch are delaying leagues/ladders from starting, fps is just one of them.

Clone cheating - wtf is that? never heard of orseen it happening in Tribes 2, maybe your thinking of CS?

permanent missile lock sound - Ive played this game almost once a day since it came out and have only ever once got this bug...

redjack - even rarer than the missile lock bug

tanks on flag - a null issue, is never done as it helps enemy attackers get away with your flag more than it would help your defence. (i.e. attacker comes in, shoots tank of the flag with spinfusor, grabs flag, jumps into tank for a quick & easy ride home, defence all shout 'shazbot')

No demo playback - yea that sucks a little, but is being patched back in soon I believe, but there haven't really been many proper matches yet to record anyway.


I would hardly classify these as 'Serious Bugs', compared to say CS with its large escortment of common bugs and cheats the game is almost perfect. Sure there are quite a few very minor bugs but they are basically all of the variety that either don't really effect gameplay at all but you know aren't quite right or they are like the missile lock bug and only happen once in 1000 games or so and even then are fixed by a quick rejoining of the server.

Are you running everything at high detail? I have to compromise to get a good FPS.

Thankfully I'm one of those gameplay before graphics people (though if I can have both, I'm even happier of course ;)).

Let's give it a little time. See what happens....

clone cheating is when a clone of you appears on the level, it will not move but you will take damage if your clone is shot.

if you have flag and someone shoots your clone you will die and the flag will disappear (which is quite serious in a ctf game)

had to restart a few clan games because of this

I get this bug at least once a game usually if you fly by an enemy Jericho

Just because you dont get some bugs dont assume no one else does, for instance dynamixs couldn’t replicate any of the bugs which forced them to role back the last patch.

Redjacks - all the time if youre a sb live user (which is quite a common card you know...)

Clones occur quite often, and are incredibly annoying. And to add to that you have to restart the server to get rid of them.

Permanent missile sound - ooh about ever 5minutes if youre a capper.

Tanks on flag isnt a bug, but deployed mobile bases are (eg 1 side of slapdash can deploy the mobile base right next to the flag quite happily)

No demo playback - kinda important

Of course there are other annoying bugs, eg setting it to 16bit colour allows you to see through some walls on maps, being able to look through the tops of mountains, servers crashing about once an hour at times (kinda a biggie), etc, etc.

Beyond that, theres the bugs where the autopatcher says "youre patch is out of date but no new patches are available", people crash far to often both ingame and when the alt-tab out, and a million other less visible bugs.

I really enjoy playing tribes2, but its incredibly annoying at times because of the problems.

I think either something is very wrong with your system or you are playing on some servers with wierd admin mods.

I wasn't saying no-one gets these bugs I was simply using the fact that I and everyone I have talked to has either never heard of these bugs or only ever seen them a few times (with the exception of the short-lived patch which was rolled back).

I find it quite hard to belive that your system is setup so wrongly that you get these kind of problems so frequently, clones appearing, walls & flags dissappearing, servers crashing every 5 minutes? not sure what game you've been playing but it definatly ain't tribes.

LOL, i assure you these arent configuration issues.

BW, WP, NGUK and other all suffer the same problems.

Redjacks - known hardware issue, dynamix just havent fixed it

clones - god knows what causes this, but it happens on all types of servers, but normally only in tournament mode for some reason.

The permanent missile sound was the first bug we found back at the i7 lan (weekend of the release). About 5minutes into our first game velvet had pointed out that he was going deaf hearing the beep noise non-stop.

Walls disappearing? Everyone with a gf gets it - go into thin ice, set your view distance to max and 16bit colour, stand on a hill from which you can just see the base, and move around. The wall will "flicker" on and off, some parts of it becoming completely transparent. Its caused by optimisations in the t2 engine to try and grab back some of the speed that a huge landscape takes away.

As a league admin for the Wireplay T2 League (Starting as soon as a tribes2 league is realistically startable), i can tell you these aren't isolated cases. When you constantly get asked in irc by new players why whichever bug theyve just experienced happens, you begin to realise just how common these bugs are.

After shelling out over 1500 on my box in the last year, i would hope for a little more than 15 fps in a 6 inch window:p And btw it Makes fuck all difference if i turn all the shit up, or turn it all off, the game still runs like fucking shite when death birds comes on. Btw ping i ping 50, so drop the lagg shit before you even start:p Face it wanker, dynamics fucked up big time in releasing this game, it's no more than a shity beta, and a poor one at that, iv'e played so many beta's off late, and this one is the worst out there, im currently playing the MS Train sim beta, and i ain't found one bug yet:p So do us a favour and stfu, quake was a first, for mast online gamming, i know, i was around back then. 5 years later, dynamics it seems ain't learned a dam thing, Comparing quake to this is a fucking joke m8, quake was five years ago, here and now is a different story. All im doing and saying my peice, it's understandable, that T2 nuts like you won't hear a bad word said about the game, but common chap, im NOT the only one saying these things.

Comparing this to quake is pretty similar really, they are both quite revolutionary games, don't know any others that can handle anywhere near the 80 players the BW megagame server has most nights, with most people not getting any probs ...apart from people getting frustrated with all the clueless newbies.

Besides I think he was comparing tribes 2 to quake in regards mainly to fps, in which case I completely agree, I remeber when Quake 1 came out, I was hooked on doom, then when quake came out it ran as slow as shit on my 486 with 8 megs of ram, back then noone knew (noone I knew anyway) about fps and all that and so didn't really realise the reason I hated the game (online atleast) was cause I was getting 10 fps :/

Death Birds fly has to be the most fps killing map released (also by far the best looking IMHO), I only got a modest machine but get reasonable fps even in the middle of firefights in front of bases and stuff on most maps but as soon as death birds fly comes on it will often go down below 20 if a couple of vehicles enter my screen area, its a shame really, because I really like the idea behind the map where nearly everyone on each team starts quite far away from the flag, meaning that attackers only have to deal with defenders rather than getting caught up with people who have just respawned next to the flag.

32-48-80 players the game plays the same:) Thats why i don't consider the game so revolutionary as your making it out. In terms of the actual engine, i don't realy consider it such a big step up over tribes, they knew exactly what they were working with, big outdoor areas, vehicles ect... You only have to look to the scraping of the beta testing, due to the many bugs they found. So with that in mind, they go straight to release soon after the scraping of the test, then fire most of the dev team with what they know to be nothing more than an advance beta. Crazy me thinks.

THe game is buggy simple - if it was not there would not be patches for it every week. Just because u dont get problems as has been said dont assume others dont. THe biggest thing was the whole memory leak issue that I think was pathced last patch (not sure) lots of soundcard issues ( you think they woul get support right for the sb live of all cards). Some gameplay issues, like inv station flag protecting, vehicle stealing. I dont get many bugs, but I do see a very unfinished product. MoteV what you are saying in support to tribes 2 has been disagreed with and discussed in many a recent BW coloum please go read them.
