Trouble staying connected

Hi

I wonder if anyone else is having trouble staying connected to excalibar at the moment, cos it's driving me mad here.

I double click, the updater patches me to US installer, I redo update.dat, updater reinstalls EU installer, I connect .......

I'm sitting trinketing in domnann and every 3 mintues or so the Lag and Packet loss lights go red and I have to stop whatever I'm doing in the hope I get through it with no Linkdead. If I just sent some chat to /gu or am moving at the time it happens, it's a definate linkdead. When I reconnect, AGAIN it tries to install the US patch.

It's been like this for almost 24 hours now and happens repeatedly, without fail.

I pinged and tracert to the camelot .21 and .23 ip's and it seemed ok. Regular browsing etc seem fine.

I did update XP to sp1 yesterday. I noticed my firewall was being spammed by outgoing ms messenger packets, which I sorted out. I don't see any other firewall problems and the port forwarding rules (nor anything else on firewall settings) havent been changed.

Any advice would be gratefully received.

I had exactly the same problem yesterday, continuous lag spikes often resulting in an LD. Pings, traceroutes etc are fine as is all other Internet activity (including other online games).

Which ISP you on? I'm on Nildram.

I've been doing ping testing on some of the routers on the way to GOA's network. I'm seeing 6-8% packetloss every couple of minutes. It's not just Excal, as I'm getting the same on Prydwen.

When I started to get the packetloss, I pinged another address at the same time and was able to get replies. Possibly a problem with GOA/Wanadoo then . . .

Ive had this same problem since yesterday.. It started around 6pm.. Connecting from england, called our isp and apparently the problem is some place in france so thye cannot do anything about it.

And its still going on.. have constant ping on the server 193.252.123.33 and it hangs every 5min or so ;/

(Using Nildram as well)

I had the same problem last night. Every 2 mins or so I would get lag spike that would last for about 10-20 seconds. Made staying with your group in RvR pretty hard :)

Logged out of the game and put ping plotter on the GOA gateway for 30 mins or so. Looked like one of the opentransit routers was playing up.

Also connecting from Nildram

Ah ha! Thanks for the replies all. Yes I am also on Nildram. I checked the nildram forum on adslguide website and although there was the usual, occasional whine thread about miscellaneous ping spikes and some packet loss, nothing to indicate a major problem within the nildram network. I did find on one of my tracerts that a certain hop was not responding, but it wasn't repeating in all my tests.
I pretty much have everything blocked on my firewall other than the stuff I specifically use on a regular basis, so doing tracerts and recording results can be a real pain sometimes. I will try to do this when I get home tonight though. Maybe others could do the same and post their results here. It might help to pin-point the problem area. Nildram are usually pretty good at assisting with this kind of thing, even when the problem is at a point outside of their network. They might at least be able to give advice on who to approach about getting the problem sorted.
Phew I'm relieved in a way that it's not just me, I was beginning to think it was a problem with my system, related to the sp1 install, but I guess that was just a coincidence.

For those who are still suffering with these problems, the following thread is on the adslguide forum, where other nildram users playing DAOC are having the same problem:

Okay, we have a ticket at Nildram.

#138510

For anyone interested.

Usual drill so far: Support passing it to the engineers, they'll ring me back once they know anything more.

Will continue to keep you posted.

Got booted off Nildram a few times last night, so I called it a night.
Been on DAoC today and it looks good so far, no LDs at all and no red squares either.

Maybe a coincidence, but it looks good so far :)

As it's all gone quiet, I guess the problem is fixed for everyone else now too. I unplugged my adsl from the socket yesterday while i was at work in the hope that when plugged back in, i'd be reconnected 'afresh' at the exhange and maybe get on another central pipe at nildram. Whether it was that or someone fixing the fuxored hop, all seems back to normal now for me. Hooray! :)
