Trojan

I just been sent a file through MSN. it was called (1)(3)(2)(3) , as a pic. It has made all my mp3s and jpgs turn to .mp3.vbs files. I spoke to someone about it and they told me it was a trojan got from msn, any help on how to remove it etc.

It was sent by someone i know. They meant to send a screeny called (1) and chose the wrong file to send. It was an accident by him

Of course it may have been just an accident from your friend or you may have to rethink whether this person is one or not.

I would guess the trojan adds VBcode to the top of all your images/mp3s, then renames them, so when an idiot tries to play them by double clicking on them, they run whatever the VBcode does. You could try to delete the lines of VB(if the actuall data isn't absent), and then they would all work fine i suppose, but then i don't really know what i'm talking about.

Or maybe it's actually deleted the mp3s and replaced them with vb scripts with the same name

Well it seems that i am sorted. I transfered all of my files onto a different partition. Then i did a f-disk on the partition i use. After installing windows back on to the formatted partition, i transfered the files from the backup drive, to the main drive. All the mp3's/jpgs reverted back to their orriginal settings. So after i run this virus check, i may be sorted. But ..... Maybe not

All meh shit was backed up anyway, so it was basically just re-installing windows.

Personally I'd have just run the updated anti-virus software. Worse-case scenario is that you'd have to delete and restore your .jpg and .mp3 files.

No need to rebuild Windows at all. :/
