I got a P3-700 my self... but I also got 256MB RAM, SB Live!, GeForce 2 GTS 32MB DDR and a ISDN line! (soon to be SDSL)

I think u should get more RAM and a GF2 card... that's what my opinion is! :)

Dave 'Qix' Georgeson has quoted some min specs:

300Mhz PC + high end graphics card
or
400Mhz PC + mid graphics card
or
500Mhz PC + low end graphics card.

Even if you class a Voodoo3 as low end, you are above the minimum spec.

I heard that it really sux ass on Voodoo cards I'm afraid :/

Unplayable was the word used. Don't have one myself (runs fine on me gf2) but thought I'd best mention it.

I know people have had a string of problems wih the voodoo cards, and tbh i don't think you will get much joy playing with the voodoo since it doesn't support opengl too well and the dev team only slapped D3D in at the last min to please voodoo owners.

It will run it but you will have to turn a lot of details down.

Its playable on voodoo cards with the right drivers and the right set up, but its definitely much better on even a gf2 mx than a voodoo5 5000.

well i think that it should work because most of my games work at high res on opengl at good quality so fingers crossed it will work :)

thanks for all your tips and advice(not much but hey)

the engine just doesn't seem to suit voodoos tho. or they couldn't be bothered optimising it :)

I don't blame them, 3dfx are no more :D

Maybe it uses hardware T & L too. Not really checked...

Yeah, the tribes2 engine makes use of hardware T+L, that is why the cpu requirements of someone running a geforce are a lot lower than someone running a voodoo (since voodoo cards don't support hardware T+L)

but ive got a good CPU will that help?

O

Sure, it just won't run as well as it would with T+L based cards.

WTF is it with Tribes & Tribes 2. First Tribes won't work with anything else BUT a Voodoo, now Tribes 2 works with EVERYTHING else but Voodoos. Why do no other software companies have this problem? Are Dynamix incapable of writing a game that runs on Voodoos as well as other types of cards?

No. 3Dfx was incapable of writing a COMPLETE OpenGL ICD. That's always been their biggest problem. Remember when Quake3 came out? How you could run it on a crap i740 or Permedia2 but not on a Voodoo anything? It was because of 3Dfx's MiniGL. They were forced to write a real ICD, but it looks like they didn't finish it.

The T2 engine will hopefully be optimised over time, either that or WickedGL will make the game playable for Voodoo owners. I can run Q3 with my V3 and Celeron 450 in 800x600 with almost everything up and get 70fps using WickedGL.

T2 definately does not like OpenGL on a voodoo, well a 5500 anyway. for some reason or other, the window text seems to blur but thankfully it seem to be fine in D3D.

i get 100+ fps in D3D in 1024 x 768 res with my v5500, 1.2Ghz athlon set up so no complaints here...

Ok so ive got the command to show the framerate...now how do i turn it off?
lol
45fps indoors, and as low as 9 outdoors, averaging at 15 for my voodoo 3 :(
Absolutely unplayable online, it's like a bleedin slideshow :(

blech
