Just testing my signature...nah that would be a waste of a post really. Okay something to discuss about HL/TFC/CS/FLF?

Tribes 2 is billed as being the ultimate online temaplay experience yada yada....Is Tribes 2 the signal of the end of the dominance of HL based mods, or will CS and TFC continue to grow and feed MOd developers to develope more mods like FLF. Discuss.

Just have to wait and see how good T2 is won't we?

I seriously doubt it'll be the end of HL mods a la CS for 2 reasons; 1) the fanbase for CS etc is already *huge* and however good T2 is it'll never claim *everyone*, and 2) min requirements for T2 are a LOT higher than they are for HL and mods. There'll always be plenty of people with lower spec machines than T2 needs.

Personally I'm dying to have a try of T2, I spent a good few months playing Tribes and enjoying it muchly and only stopped when the scripting got out of hand and it became a game of script vs script and too innacessible to most people. But I also imagine that even if i get hooked on it that I'll still fancy some CS every now and again... well... at least until Halo comes out :p

One of the reasons overlooked by people for the huge number of half-life players is because it can run on low end systems.

Tribes 2 will need a powerful machine (I think) where as Half-Life can still run on a lowish spec machine.

Doubt Half-Life will die off easily :)

I think it will depend on the support that T2 developers give to mod makers.
Valve have after all always been very supported of the MOD scene.

When it comes down to it the HL engine is becoming slightly dated now and so no doubt some experienced MOD makers will want to see what is possible with the new engine.

The trouble is unless T2 takes off as a game on it's own (like HL did) then there will be less interest in MOD's and so less will get made, or at least get past the first couple of beta stages. Few people are driven enough to carry on working on something if they feel that it is not reaching anyone.

Maybe everyone will wait for TF2, although that could leave them waiting a long time :)

Well, i know for a fact the guys that made the Strike Force mod for Unreal Tournament are making one for T2, which will be released a couple of months after the actual game... they say that they're getting great support from the T2 guys (which they didn't get from the UT guys), so good luck to 'em :) Personally, i think T2 and the Strike Force mod will rock !!!

Are tis true, scripts can bork games up:( Some might say tfc is the same. But hey this is a T2 thread, and just like most others i can't wait for it to reach the stores, the idea of jumping around on apc's loaded with rockets apeals to me;) I realy enjoyed playing tribes when it first out, but at the time i was commited to playing q2, so my time playing the game was limited, then it all faded away when i started playing tfc, followed by cs. Roll on tribes 2, hopefully the wonderfull netcode won't have been choped:)

I reckon Tribes 2 will take alot of players from CS, but CS won't die :)
The Strike Force MOD will be superb, as will TAC (Team Aerial Combat). If you haven't had a game of TAC, you've never really lived :)
There's gonna be a Chivaly one with knights and wizards and stuff, a racing game based on hillybillies and lots of Army mods etc.

Sad thing is, i've got my exams when T2 comes out.
Grades or Tribes? Jury is still out on that one :)
