Ill be working in a neighbouring town in the autumn and will have to take a train to and from work. Ill have to leave home 40min before i start and wont get home until 40min after work ends at the earliest (train is often delayed since its long distance). Thats 1h 20min lost each day which i definetly wont enjoy, although i have a supicion its pretty normal.

So, how much time do you lose each workday on travel? Obviously if you are getting paid for any of the traveltime it doesnt count. Also, what is the maximum ammount of time you would be willing to lose on a regular basis?

I lose about an hour each way traveling to and from school/college on the train. =/

Personally, I'd love to lower it to 20 mins or so - which will be happening when I take my bike test :d

My travel time is 40mins from my bedroom to my desk each way.

I would not want to be longer than an hours actual travel time ie on a bus/train/car/boat or whatever...

Snap. My day is 11.5 hours, 7.5 of which is work time. Knackering. Will change soon though, I'm supposed to be moving and that should take the travel time down to around 35-40 mins.

yeah, and Trebz is know to move very slowly ;)

myself, I work over several locations. If I work in Arnhem, I have a round trip of about 10 minutes to work. Amsterdam is a round trip of about 2,5hrs train time, and Rotterdam is about 2,5hrs car time. I "work" 9 hours a day, and for Rotterdam I have the travel included in my work time.

Completely unpredictable for me. I could work 10 miles away for 5 hours one day, then the next day do 11 hours work somewhere 250 miles away.

Between 20 minutes and 40 minutes -it depends if I get to the station in time for my train or not.

I'd be happy travelling up to an hour each day, and know that I may be required to do more.

I work 220 miles away from home, a 3.5 -> 4.5hr commute.

Which is why work pay for a hotel during the week :D

I drive down Monday morning, and sit on the M6 on Friday evenings.

Work is 7m away from where I live, it takes about 10m-15m to get there, so thats urm 30m travel a day and thats about my limit

Had a job that took 1hrs drive and quit after 2 weeks.

I have to leave home 1.5 hours before I start work but that's only because I walk from mine to the station and from the station at the other end to work (which is 30 mins total). It allows me to walk quite slowly as well and pick up a coffee/bite on the way in.

I keep getting told I need to move closer to work because I'm not 'rapid response' but bollocks, I don't mind the travelling. It's also a helluva lot cheaper than driving (a month ticket on the train I get is £60 compared to the £140 in petrol and £80 in parking it would cost me to drive).

i leave at about 8am and get to work at about 9am. it's a 15 minute walk to the bus garage and then 35mins or so on the bus, which isn't too bad. i'm renting a place about 5 minutes from my work this weekend though, so i can sleep longer and go home for a lunchtime wank

I have about a 10-15 mile drive depending on what way I go - typically takes about 20 minutes. It's dual carriageway all the way, if it wasn't for the speed cameras I could probably do it in 10. When I had the Golf GTI my record was 15 minutes on a sunday morning. Needle only dropped below 100 leptons for the cameras.

God I miss that... *mourn GD*

You need yourself a large monitor plus wireless keyboard & mouse mate = work from bed! :)

My travel times suck at the moment, anything from 30 mins to 2 hours in the morning (Blackwall Tunnel), about 45 mins on the way back.

No chance, I like living in Manchester and my base office is a 5 min drive away, I just haven't been there since February :)

I'm only working on a project down south, and with mileage money & food expenses I'm making more money than I would if I worked in my base office :)

Hi guys

I'm very fortunate that my workplace is just a five minute walk along a riverside :)

The longest commute I know was a friend of mine at university who used to travel for four hours everyday on the tube and train (two there, two back). Crazy :(

Kind regards

My work is 25 miles away. If I drive, it takes 30 mins door to door. Set off at about 0630 usually (start at 8 but Im keen!!)

If I ride, its only 20 miles, which I tend to do about 3 times a week if Im not competeing at the weekend, and I normally add a bit on in the morning to make it about 30-35 miles. Takes me around an hour or so depending on weather and fitness level and I usually set off at about 0530.
