Depends where you are travelling from. Different places go to different stations. If you are planning to get a return and also travel around london then your best bet is to get a day travelcard as it allows you to get into and around london and then home again without having to buy lots of tickets.

not sure. i assumed it would be the same as anywhere else. you can get to any ultimate destination, though you might have to switch trains etc.

i just went to get right in the centre where all the good stuff is.

what i want to know is, which station in london should be my ultimate destination to get to all that?

Tell us where you live and we can help - as you get few 'central stations' that go to all parts of the UK.

The different lines go to different places.

Trains from reading go into Paddington

Trains from basingstoke/southampton go to Waterloo

etc
etc

if you search on trainline for *yourtown* to *london all stations* it will send you to the station at the end of your local main line into london.
Once in london you can get to where you actually need to go via bus, tube or overland.

Trains from reading go into St Pancras

:O wut I didn't know this, I've only been living here for a short amount of time and I only thought I could get to Paddington/Waterloo from here. Might've saved me effort on the underground.

assuming you'd have to change at cambridge for kings cross from ipswich, like you do if you coming from norwich, i'd suggest going to liverpool street cos you have to wait for ages at cbridge sometimes.

Shouldn't the question be, why am I going to London? In the first place? A city that analogises itself with Paris, New York etc yet has less life and people that are vibrant and wonderful within either of the latter.

Save your money - don't bother :)

You diss it but it shits on every other city in the UK.

Where in London are you going? Might help, saying the central doesnt really help because its so big with many different central areas.

More to do, absolutely yes.

More crime? Yes. More aggression? Yes. More shameless greed? Yes. People alot less friendlier? Yes.

There are 20+ other U.K. cities I would rather visit than London to be honest, the place is downright unpleasant at times and a fucking ripoff as well.

If you ask for a ticket to London you will get a ticket with "London Terminals" as the destination. Once you arrive in London buy a 1 day travel card then you can hop on the tube/bus to get around central London.

OP ask for travel pass .. so you can use the tubes anywhere and get to and from your destination ...

That is if you are going for the day ..

otherwise something like oxford street or westminster will be good

From Ipswich it would be Liverpool Street but get yourself a cheap travel card as you can then go to most London train stations. It also costs about £1 more than a cheap day return so worth it.

Yo tris- bitch, why you coming down here and where you planning to go?

do what soze said and get a travel card, I doubt you'll need more than zones 1-4, you can get everywhere from any of the major train stations.

It poops on the other cities true, but I'm getting tired of London now. Think I'd be quite happy in a small town away from all the shit. But you are right, people from some right shit hole cities in the north should shut up.

Get Advance Tickets if I were you - a lot of train companies allow you to pre-book.

I can go from Birmingham to Kent (250 miles) for 25 quid return ish with an advance or 90 quid ish with a standard ticket.

Also if you can be arsed with the journey time, megabus etc do coach tickets for under a £5 pre-booked.
