Can I simply transfer my firefox settings and bookmarks by copying the profile from my XP install to my vista install?

Will the same work for thunderbird and all my mailboxes?

it should, though it must end up in a slightly different place on Vista. there are some guides on teh interwebnet for you. remember to fully install TBird with a fake mail account, then simply copy the contents of your one profile (something like agfagaw.awgawg) to the other. so not the directory itself but it's contents.

Copy everything from your %APPDATA%\Mozilla and %APPDATA%\Thunderbird directories between the two machines.

Should work just fine.

Yeah, you simply copy the contents of your profile to the new profile folder. As TdC said, they're somewhere else on Vista (c:\users instead of c:\documents and settings).

EDIT: You could try http://mozbackup.jasnapaka.com/

did the opposite recently, copying FF and TB profiles from XP to Ubuntu for 8 people - mount the NTFS partition, write one script and wait 15 seconds :)
