Art has always been a bit, well, weird. Some things that look like donkeypoo are great works of art, while absolutely amazing works are regarded a boring.

The only reason anyone has heard of this talentless loon is because Satchi made her famous and now she's the emperors new clothes.

Good for her. She's managed to carve out a lucrative career out of other people's stupidity. (Met her in the W hotel in Sydney once, she was actually very nice, and quite pissed).

Well, many thought, at the time, that dali and vancock were absolute toss.

So maybe the kiddies who grow up in l33tspeak, burberry busses and like button on women instead of...well...a button, will appreciate this.

Art is a massive joke, smash some wood together with a machette thrown in it and say it shows the african villages pain and CHERCHING.

I probably just don't understand it, but some woman hung up 3 tvs and people see it as an art piece. It seems pointless.

A nice picture, fair enough, its art, but all this like sculpture modern art is bullshit.

mordern art is the biggest pile of shit ever, it's got to a point where noboday knows what art is anymore so the stand around sniffing thier own farts and posturing about how a shit on a roundabout captures the essence of todays cultural nuances.

Modern art has always been controversial because it's a lot harder to see the "talent" for want of a better word. I don't like her work but she has made a living out of being good with her imagination and making people buy what she creates.

Funnily enough the missus mate went to art college with Tracy and Hurst, she said the did lttle art, just organised a little gang with lots of events that were impossible to get in to.
They were both clever enough to spot clueless millionaires with a passion to be cool and accepted, so hats off to them, nothing new of course..a fool and his money are easily parted.

tbh i prefer sculptures, and stone carvings, ancient rome/greece is full of proper impressive art, I don't rate picasso of van gough any more than this modern shit either, people who had basic tools and tonnes of talent impress the hell out of me tho

Work-dropping again, but I did a couple of days filming for the Turner Prize this year. This was the winner:

At first I too didn't "get it", and couldn't quite see the value, but that isn't really the point with a lot of modern art. It's how it makes you feel to stand there and walk around it. Photographs and video don't really help.

Boyce's piece of artwork was essentially an artificial park. The columns are tree trunks. The funny ceiling is the leaves. The lights on the ceiling cast dappled shadows everywhere. The park bench, with its strange scrawled runes and letters, is obvious. There's an odd bin tucked away in a corner, and brown paper leaves are everywhere.

Doubtless some people would have thought it doesn't take skill to make that, but once I'd been in there for a few minutes, I realised that it made me feel just the same way as I feel when I'm in a real park, except this time I was inside a windowless room. It really was a very nice relaxing place to be, even though it was a bit dark, and quite cold.

It's the same with the other exhibits, although I didn't really like the video projection room (I could see what she was trying to do though).

These aren't artworks that you look at and think "fuck me, I could never paint that, that bloke is awesome". That isn't the point.

Looks like a load of ally/steal off cuts welded together by a YTS trainee, finished with some Ikea lighting. Horses for courses I suppose.

Like I said on Facebook, I take that article with a pinch of salt. The author has merely spelled "darwin" incorrectly.
She is a thoroughly worthwhile recipient of that accolade.
