Yeah the realm divide isnt actually that bad if your infrastructure is built up enough to survive the loss of trade

I've found Hattori to be the most fun to start with, it's extremely difficult to build up as you are right next to Kyoto, but once you get going you literally split the country in two and can secure one side entirely before realm divide kicks in. Then the fun really starts!
