They just said on the news that the hospital released a statement saying that he suffered a significant brain injury during the crash but doctors are optomisic that he will make a "good" recovery.

Notice they didnt say full....

A significant brain injury isn't the end of the world. There are lots of bits and pieces in the brain that people can do without. Witness those people who have a stroke and fully recover.

I love top gear - it works because Hamster, Clarkson and James work so well together. I really hope he's ok, it's rare these days that we get good tv presenters who have the balls to really go out there and try what they talk about.

So has Top Gear gone too far? No way. Hammond wasn’t forced behind the wheel of the dragster at gunpoint. He knew the risks. He had the best support team waiting in the wings. Given the opportunity, most petrolheads would give it a go themselves. Top Gear is perhaps venturing into dangerous territory with some of its wacky stunts. But one thing’s for sure: the more hair-brained stunts they do the more we want to tune in. And, so long as the presenters know the risks involved and are prepared to live with the consequences, should we not be supporting them for their courage and bravery?

If the BBC decide to tone the program down or heaven forbid drop it entirely they will face a backlash of the likes which they have never seen. Ok only 5 million people watch it in the U.K. but it has a regular worldwide audience of over 300 million, it is the number one car program in the world for the car industry as well. The protests they will see in the U.K. will be massive, you will see pickets at BBC sites and a mass boycott of BBC channels. Rumour also has it that Clarkson has told the BBC that any radical changes to the show will force him to leave and start a very similiar show on independant TV, something that Channel 4 have apparently been very very keen on aquiring if they can get Clarkson. If the BBC have any sense they will leave well alone, they aren't exactly swimming in Emmy award winning shows these days and practically nothing on BBC2 gets 5 million viewers in a weekday evening timeslot.

Not having a go here and I am quite drunk -

They are 3 really close friends, that is obvious. I couldn't give a shit if they stood there and talked about pajamas, I love seeing them together and they are totally watchable, even my girlfriend loves TG and she hates cars. TV in this country is down the toilet if TG is taken off the air, normal blokes, normal people like the show and we need more like it.

We don't want some program about whining wanks who think this country owes them a living and not a program about a house with great wallpaper.

I wish threads like this could be about sincere things rather than someone always having to be negative to be different. It is pretty important that Richard Hammond gets better because he and the other 2 stop me from going prison for not paying my licence fee.
