I watched the 2nd part of it and i didn't like it at all, most of the films were black and white and i'd hardly ever heard of them also putting films and sequals in the same catagory was stupid. Most of the ppl who they talked to were around 70 odd as well as missing tonnes of films out and there's no way Star Wars is #1, its good and all but i mean come on :)

FFS did you actually see the film, the line goes
Hicks "I like to keep this handy (pauses to pump shotgun) for close encouters"
Frost "I heard that"

Aliens was much better than Alien as there was more action, the weapons were fantastic and it contained the best B rate actors there have ever been (most better than the big stars)

Shawshank redemption was definately better than the godfather 1 & 2. In fact everything on the chart was better than the godfather.

I was half expecting the cunts to put Harry Potter in the top ten thank god they didn't, or did they? I only started watching after its a wonderful life.

Saving Private Ryan?
The Green Mile?

The first five minutes of both these films are far better than the ENTIRE 'epic' [used very losely] of Star Wars

Now what I'd like to see is all these movies aired on Channel 4

oh come on someguy please. I just want to tell everybody all the mistake they made in alien 3 and why in theory none of it was possible. The novelisation of Alien was better than the film and when the novelisation is better than the film then the film must have sucked.

did what.
No I mean I want to tell the boys and girls why alien 3 wasn't possible, there are several major mistakes that anyone with a little common sense and a love of the alien trilogy can see. The first mistake begins at the end of aliens, can you guess what it is?

yup

Well the first mistake is, how the fuck did the queen lay an egg when A/ Ripley blew up the eggsack B/ shot and burned all the eggs C/ the queen tore herself from the eggsack and D/ remained under the dropship and didn't have time to lay a fecking egg.
The other mistake was that the Sulaco was a military ship, why the fuck would a military ship's EEV not carry weapons, were they expected to have to evacuate to a world of hippies or something.

Anyway we've been off topic long enough, back to it.

*rumages through vid collection*

Was American Pie or Dune on the list?

firstly, in my opinion alien was the best of the lot...

i enjoyed watching aliens but it didnt have any of the suspense of the first movie... sure there were more guns and more explosions and a bigger alien... but so what..

and on the subject of sequeals.. i dont think any sequel has been better than the original (/me invites hundreds of people saying stuff like "terminator 2 was better cause the terminator was all metal and stuff and there were bigger explosions)

and did fight club get a mention... that movie is one of the best movies i have ever seen, and one of the only movies i still watch now and again...

everybody has their own opinions about no.1 whatever ch4 put as the top movie (wether it was voted for or not) there are always going to be lots of people who disagree (me for one)

but as for number1, i dont think i could pick one... theres way to many excellent movies to pick from :/

Terminator 2 was better cause the terminator was all metal and stuff :)

Also I think Empire Strikes Back is better than A New Hope, and GodFather 2 is better than 1, and Superman 2 is better than 1.
Alien I'm staying out of that argument - to be honest I don't know which one I prefer - they both r0ck!
But other than them few films, I agree with you - most sequals suck if you compare them to the originals, just look at Hannibal, and Highlander 2!

All my favourite movies of all time are pretty modern.

I prefer a good film, I dont care much for special effects, especially when they used to cover a poor plot or bad acting.

Apocalypse Now shoulda been higher.
2001 ahould have been higher.
Shawshank should have been lower (it bored the pants off me).
Die Hard should have been top 10 (it's a classic)
Star Wars shouldn't have been number 1.
And where were Dirty Harry, Bullitt and Full Metal Jacket in the top 20? eh? EH?
Transformers: The Movie should have been high up aswell.

Anyone who doesn't agree with the above.........

has a different opinion.

Christ I must be mellowing out in my old age :)

Hehe, it's soooo easy to say SW shouldn't have been #1, but it's hard to justify your POV without stating in your opinion what should have been there in it's place.

The poll was a cross section of 10,000 people, therefore giving a pretty balanced view. It was a top 100 of the best films of all time, yes, but not in the sense you're thinking.

"Best" in this sense means the most popular, the ones most enjoyed and loved by people. Not the most critically laudable efforts, cos that's waaaaaay too subjective, as this very thread goes to prove - different people get different things from the same films, so critically appraising films is inherently open to argument.

Yes Star Wars is a fantastic film, but Empire IS better though, imo, because it's darker and has greater characterisation.

And Aliens is better than Alien, for sheer entertainment value - Alien, whilst a great film, has several critical lulls during it's running time. Aliens has far fewer and keeps the viewers interest far better.

I'm a bit dubious about how this poll ended up though tbh. Isn't it a bit strange that both 1st and 2nd place were films part 1 and part 2??!!
If it was done on a vote surely that makes it totally unfair to include both part 1 and 2 as the same film? It would possibly double the number of votes for it.
If the votes for Star Wars 'A New Hope' and 'Empire' were seperated out I wonder if either of them would have appeared in the top ten? And I wonder the same for The Godfather... Although I do agree that the Godfather deserved to be up there somewhere.

I have to disagree. Empire bored me and nothing happened until the end

Not really. If someone voted for both Star Wars and Empire in their selection then only one vote would've been counted, as films and their sequels were put in together.

Seperate them and SW & GF films would've garnered twice as many votes, not half as many.
