Dont consider saw to be a horror to be honest. More a thriller in my book

Correct, but we on about the top 10 SCARY movies

its just that most ppl associate horrors to be the scarest, but as with thrillers, especially psychology thrillers they tend to be scary more so. Because they fook with ya head besides having the effects too.

Hence Saw !

i was basing it on childhood trauma factor :(
i have a little ocusin who decided to hide and watch IT , needless to say she went mental when we went to the circus. Only clicked when she started screamng pennywise

but then again exorcist was rumoured to be the reason 2 kids killed themselves, altho they were Americans o_O

ahhhh ur referring about IT? (i found that film 3hrs of boring crap)

lost me for a second there

But yes ur right different films scare different ppl in different ways, its not all about blood & core etc

Which is the point i was trying to get across

Well Americans are...well...erm...just Amercian

and after watching "Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Moon" the other night for the 1st time all i can say is...i thought the Yanks couldnt shock me anymore but this time they took it 1 step further and what they did was just "way below the belt"

excorsist is pretty scary... the ending when the mom comes home and those statues are in the dark scared the shit out of me + the other stuff...

Lost Highway seems pretty fucked as well, havn't watched it all but what i saw was creepy... Still longing to watch Jacobs ladder as well.
IT was scary when i was younger, Pennywise is teh shit-evil clown :( ending is crap tho. The Shining (first version is the best, but 2nd version aint bad either)
Stigmata ain't bad either, not as scary tho.

hmm... dunno about others, there's more, cant remember those tho ;(

The Ring (US version) was bloody scary, films that play tricks on your mind rather than just show blood and gore are usually much scarier. The original Amityville scared the bejezus out of me as well and the first couple of Freddy movies.

If we're just talking scary, then Roger Hargreaves did a fetaure animation about an elderly couple during the days upto, and after, a nuclear war.

If no-ones seen When the Wind Blows then i urge you to go and get it now. It's a really really harsh film.

Equally, the opening scenes of Saving Private Ryan i can't watch. It's too real, and i just can't imagine any reason why it happened...

makes me ill shit like that :(

Scariest one for me was "All Things Bright and Beautiful" - a BBC1 TV drama/movie about the horror of rabies coming over to England. Scared the hell out of me - particularly the chilling soundtrack - the hymn of the same title whispered by a child..../shiver....

2. When the Wind Blows
3. Day of the Trifids (b/w version)
4. Pet Cemetary
5. The Fog
6. Sixth Sense
7. Omen
8. The Exorcist
9. Nil By Mouth (Ray Winston / Kathy Burke dir. Gary Oldman) - horrific.
:puke:
10. What Lies Beneath

aaah when the wind blows, man did that make me cry! and talking about animation this guy from work brought his 4 year old watership down (btw my fave book is that) didnt realise it was pretty horrific and ran in when his lil boy started to scream.

ive never watched the movie IT but the book, whoa mama i tell you i have to sleep with the lights well on when i was reading that one lol.

love horror movies the cheesier the better (but has to be good cheese tbh) any one see Cabin Fever? pretty crap movie but the ending was hillarious (forgotten how to do spoilers so look away if youve not seen it)

when the kid runs out yelling "I made it!!!" then gets shot and where the old guy at the store brings out that shot gun to the black kids, after telling the main chars that the shot gun was for the n****ers and they accused him of being racist rofl that bit almost made up for the rest of the movie.

one thing i hate about horror movies (and some thrillers) is when the good guy is faced with the evil dude they never sodding kill em! i end up yelling at the tv KEEEEL HIIIIM!!!!!! JUST KILL HIM FFS!!!! OMG I CANT BELIEVE YOU DID THAT!!?????!!

if your in to horror books i'd like to recommend a writer called richard laymon, his stuffs pretty cheesy but great for the old Eek factor (lots of naked 22 year old women running about, guns, monsters the works) a couple of his better ones are:
Endless night
Quake
Ressurection Dreams
the beast house trilogy
Savage
Fun house

also Dean koontz has a newish one out which was excellant called The Taking (most of his stuffs great tbh big fan)

That film was crap imo, the ending was 1 of a kind when i saw it tho!

Predator 1 and 2 was very scary when i watched them, at the age of 10 or something. I couldn't go upstairs alone...

Then they brought AVP out...Predators kick ass

The first amityville was great i thought and quite creepy watching around 12 years old.I watched the shining when i was about 10 god that was scarey at that time. :p

Oh and evil dead series totally rocks! why you think i got it in my avatar. xD

Part 4 is supposed to be coming out sometime soon with bruce campbell playing a role in it again.

Do not find any films scarey now really at all....though the jap version of the ring did make me scared a bit i must admit as it had that good atmospheric feeling with surround sound making you think the film was real.

Love Dean Koontz books, always seem to read them too quickly though. Have not read The Taken yet, saving it for the beaches in three weeks time.

My Fav Koontz books are:

Twilight Eyes
The Key to midnight - best mystery/thriller.
Can't remember the name but the one where the guy teleports himself around.

I'll try to get a Laymon book and let you know what I think.

Saw aliens when i was 9 or summat. i actually didnt wtach most of it. was busy hugging my mum but it scared the shit out of me. couldnt sleep for a week.
Alien still i cant watch on my own. the bit where hes in the tunnels with it just ahhh.
face huggers are the scariest. just the thought of a alien bursting thru my chest makes me feel sick.
The Thing. scary 1st time i watched it. but imo 1 of the best films ever made no doubts.
predator was just amazingly kick ass. made me always look twice at bushes.
predator 2 good but not scary.
AvP the biggest pile of shit ever tbh. good fights an thats about it. terrible acting and lines and storyline and just god. think my brother pointed out the best part of the film had to be the french dude explaining the pyramid changing on a timer of 10mins. its because they worked in factors of 10 or something instead of the same system as we use. so thats y it changes every 10minutes.... yup 10minutes... 10 lots of 60 and not 10 lots of 10. or 10 lots of 10 lots of 10. makes full sense to me...

Half the other films mentioned here i was never allowed to see when younger so when i watched em wernt that scary for me.
the shining was shit scary.

Yeah. The movie "IT" scared me too. One time when I was walkning past our church I looked when the church was built.. I got really fu*ked up, it was the same year as pennywise was born if i remember right. Suddenly all the pictures of pennywise struck me.. When the littlebrother sees the clown down in the sewers and when pennywise is sitting in the library or when the book is starting to turn pages by itself... damn!
I think that movie shouldnt be seen by kids.
The shining was also pretty scary imo, maybe cus i saw it as a little boy.
Hate the sceene when those 2 girls shows in the screen.. Dont know why, it just scares me..

Society is a bit scary too - wasn't that the one with the stiff little fingers? I'm confusing myself now...

I don't find gore scary anymore, it just makes me feel ill - scary covers everything from Horror to Gangster though, so things like the one scene in Casino, where the guys head is in a G-Clamp, or seeing Joe Pesci ( :worthy: ) stab a guy to death with his own pen - both very scary to watch, just for the intensity of the scenes...

the start of the thing is a helicopter from the norwegian ressearch place chasing a dog over big ice plane shooting at it with a rifle and grenades. the dog being the thing trying to escape and them trying to stop it.
the dog runs into the americans camp and the norwegeins exploderise their helicopter by mistake and the americans just think they were insane. an during the film the americans visit the norwegeieainains camp and find they found a giant frozen alien ship.
then the ending is there is 1 last thing left and i 4get the name of the like hero guy. but him and 2 others are trying to kill it and they do it by desstroying the camp completly exploding it and only kurt russel thats his name! survive and the black dude but they cant be sure neither of them is a thing. and they just sit their and wait to freeze to death or summat then it finishes. so u never know if they killed it or not. but as ur fighting lots of them in the game i guess they didnt :p

actually jsut reminded me i lent that to a mate likea year ago wit my matrix dvd. bastids must get that back

I find it cute :p

1. The ring - really scary stuff
2. Chucky - Watched it when i was young, had nightmares till i saw the end where he died. (If u have kids, and ever let 'em seen a horror movie, here's a advice, let them watch the bad guy being killed, and no more awake nights for them.)
3. The Sphere - Was late, i was young, lets say i couldn't figure out pretty well the movie. Found myself having nightmares that i was stuck on a buiilding, and couldn't find the exit ^^.
4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10. Pokemon - Gremlins, they r so many, and filthy :s

omg the grudge??? the one with sarah michelle buffy in it?? i saw that in australia with my nephew and could not stop laughing it was shocking, some kid poked his toes through the seat behind mine so i grabbed em and went "RAR" when there was that spooky clicky noise in the film, lol the kid shat himself, Honestly though it was so bad i wanted to lob an m'n'm at the screen.

- hannibal (tbh hannibal lecter scares te crap outta me)

- Saw (man that film was scarey, not so much for the gross bits but i couldnt stop thinking what would i do if faced with the choices the ppl in it had to make)

-Jaws, that movie scared me so much i've never been in the sea since then.

- 28 days later, jeeze imagine if that really happened??

- war of the worlds (origional, as mentioned it scared me so much i couldnt walk under lamp posts after i saw it.

Omg, u gotta be kidding me, War of the Worlds ? That doesn't even qualify as a scary movie. The grudge was pretty horrifying.

IMO i prefer Thriller's to horror movies. A bunch of good thrillers r the movies made by M. Night Shyamalan(sp?). The Village is the best imo, doesn't show one tiny bit of deformed faces or whatever, and u still shit yourself up, coz it was made perfectly.

1) ET (he scared the shit out of me. i cant look anything with ET on without freaking out)
2) the Grudge (i really shit myself)

i dont really find horror/thriller films scary. i jumped a lot watching 'the texas chainsaw massacre', and i found the fact that it was based on reality scary. i guess any film with a basis in reality showing how evil humans can be scares me.

Yeah, I watched the DVD with a friend once. We were at his workplace at night since there is a room with a room-sized screen and surround sound. It's also completely pitch black with lights off... so the movie was quite damn scary in the beginning.

anyone remember seeing a movie called "Them" about giant ants attacking a town? really cool 1950's b movie type thing, i love those really wish local cinemas would do late nice screenings of the old horror classics, another really good (imo) movie is "Tremours" not because its scarey but its such a good B movie tribute, they tried the same with 8 legged freaks but it didnt work for me, wasnt a bad way to spend a couple of hours but damn glad i didnt see it at the cinema.

Also one i remember really vaguely was one called the melthing man or something it was about this guy who went in to space and his ear fell off ad in the end he kinds morphed in to a giant hand with suction cups on it (bearing in mind i was about 4 when i saw this so a velly long time ago) my sisters were babysitting me and thought i'd be ok for me to watch it man <shudder> can still remember how terrified i was.

Also the michael jackson thriller video sared the crud out of me (was also a kiddy when i saw it) had to be taken out side for some air and a big cloud went over the moon and i went nuts rofl, just have to look at jackson now and i get the same feeling.
