OK, we've done break up songs so how about a slight twist on it. Ten songs to fall in love with, EXCEPT they have to be slightly alternative. Whether it be in lyrical content or musical delivery, it doesn't matter. No Lionel Richie etc please.

Here are mine (in no particular order):

The Cure Love Song
however far away i will always love you however
long i stay i will always love you whatever
words i say i will always love you i will always
love you

Pink Floyd Wish You Were Here
how i wish, how i wish you were here
we’re just two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl
year after year

A Perfect Circle Magdalena
i'd sell my soul
my self esteem
a dollar at a time
for one chance
one kiss
one taste
of you my magdalena

Massive Attack Protection
i stand in front of you
i'll take the force of the blow
protection

The Wannadies You & Me Song
but it’s you and me
and we’ll always be together
you and me - always - and forever

Pixies La La Love You
all i'm saying pretty baby
la la love you don't mean maybe
all i'm saying pretty baby

The Cure Friday I'm In Love
i don't care if monday's blue
tuesday's grey and wednesday too
thursday I don't care about you
it's friday i'm in love

Muse Bliss
everything about you is how i wanna be
your freedom comes naturally
everything about you resonates happiness
now i won't settle for less

Smashing Pumpkins Stand Inside Your Love
i'm telling you how much i need and bleed for
your every move and waking sound in my time
i'll wrap my wire around your heart
and your mind
you're mine forever now
who wouldn't be the one you love and live for
who wouldn't stand inside your love and die for
who wouldn't be the one you love

edit: ooh forgot, Massive Attack - Angel would be on there but I just split up with the girlfriend that had specific meaning with, so right now I can't listen to it without turning into a 11 year old girl at a westlife concert.

Alternative doesn't just mean rock, not in this sense at least. Electronica is alternative to pop chart shite, therefore you're free to post it.

I presume you're talking about electronica and not opera?

It did indeed, but The Cure are hardly Boyzone are they? Which is exactly how I determined what could be considered alternative and what couldn't.

Pink Floyd made one of the biggest selling albums ever, does that mean they're elegible for this thread as well?

erm......

Crazytown - Butterfly
Come my lady, come, come come my lady.
You're my butterfly
sugar baby

Eagle Eye Cherry - Save Tonite
Save Tonite,
and fight the break of dawn
come tomorrow,
tomorrow I'll be gone

Guano Apes - Rain <-- thoroughly reccomend that one
Can't sleep until I feel your rain
How can I find
Love, Faith and Trust inside of your rain?
So unreal, can't find another place of your rain
I believe
I still believe in your warm rain
So untrue

Jars of Clay - I need you
I need You, I need You, I need You
I need You, I need You, I need You
You’re all I’m living for
I might sound like a fool
But I think I felt You moving closer to me

Most of John Mayers work

Muse - Bliss
everything about you pains my envying
your soul can't hate anything
everything about you is so easy to love
they're watching you from above

Our Lady Peace - Somewhere Out There
You're falling out of reach,
defying gravity,
I know you're out there,
somewhere out there.

Puddle of Mud - Control
I love the way you look at me
I love the way you smack my ass
I love the dirty things you do
I have control of you

UNKLE - Be there
As I look into your eyes
I pay no mind
I found the way
To get inside you
I'd give you peace of mind

Dido, Coldplay and the usual suspects :)

depends if you think Wish You Were Here is a love song or not, and i dont think it is. The cure are pure pop at their poppiest, which is no bad thing, it just irritates me that Alt needs to be used as a term...it doesnt describe music, and the line is too thin to say whats what.

Bob Dylan - I Want You
Donovan - Catch the wind
Nick Drake - Northern Sky
Magnetic Fields - Luckiest Guy On The Lower Eastside
Beach Boys - God Only Knows
The Divine Comedy - Tonight We Fly
The Lightening Seeds - Sense
Jeff Buckley/Leonard Cohen - Hallelujiah(Sp)

thats all i can think of right now,

Personally I chose Wish You Were Here for personal reasons, but I do think it's a love song of sorts. Although it's more of a tribute.

The Cure are very poppy now, but during their LSD days they were very dark and moody, and definitely alternative.

It is difficult to term what alternative love songs are, but for the sake of this argument I guess saying anything that would be unlikely to be considered for inclusion on a mass produced "Love" compilation CD is fine.

On a side note, I've just got hold of Pink Moon by Nick Drake and it's very good. Do you like Martin Carthy too?

Buhh?

Out of 17 studio albums (off the top of my head that's all I could think of), there are two that could possible be considered 'pop'. I really can't see that that constitues describing them as pure pop.

Fat Man Scoop - Who Fuckin' Tonight

Bloodhound Gang - The Bad Touch

'So if I capsize on your thighs high tide B-5 you sunk my battleship
Please turn me on I'm Mister Coffee with an automatic drip
So show me yours I'll show you mine "Tool Time" you'll Lovett just like Lyle
And then we'll do it doggy style so we can both watch X-Files'

And finally...

G n R - Buick Makane

'IIIIIIiiiiiiiiiiiiiIIIIIIIIIIIIiiiiiiiiiii know what to do........'

A testiment to your stupidity, you didnt even read what i wrote, properly. Just so you dont miss it a second time, read the first 8 words(over and over again), until it sinks in to your flab lined skull.

Do I have a flab-lined skull if I don't see more than one way of interpreting those first 8 words? :\
