Hi guys...

2 months ago I eaten something and it had chipped part of my tooth... only part of the shell on the outside. I thought OK it dont hurt so it cool... But since last thursday I started to develop a tooth ache... was just 1 last thursday... now its Monday and I get a tooth ache every blooming 30 mins... by god it hurts... I phoned the dentist and the closest appointment I can get is next Wednesday which is just consultation.

I'm sure you guys have had this before.

Any suggestions on what to take for it? I tried Nurofin (spl?) but that dont do the trick, any ideas?

shouldn't have to wait that long, my gf is from france and she didn't even have a dentist when she started getting tooth aches here, called up the closest one we could find and she joined it + got her consulation a day later.. just make it as seem urgent as possible, get someone else to call up for you and pretend you're in too much pain to speak or somethin ;d take plenty of ibuprofen!

p.s consulation should lead to them giving you anti biotics or doing something to it atleast

theres a product out there called "anbesol" dunno if you can get it where you are but i guarantee its immediate relief, completely numbs the tooth and the surrounding area, great for that. i had major tooth ache about 2 years ago and it done the trick.

oh and in case you get tempted, dont rub it anywhere else.....it might sound like a good idea at the time but it never turns out well :worthy:

Well done. You now have an Abcess.

I would advise against any kind of topical relief such as as clove oil. You will probably find that pain killers wont work either unless you can get your hands on some tramadol.

You will have to man it out for about 2 weeks because the dentist will give you antibiotics first and will not treat it until the infection has cleared.

Good luck, they are a nightmare and if it gets really bad the pain will drive you up the wall

Alternatively, if you cba waiting for your appointment. Phone the emergency dentist and tell them you dont have a dentist. They will see you right away and will charge about 20p

If you have a DEEP abcess then expect to suffer the worst pain that a man can endure. Only gallstones/kidney stones are supposed to be more painful.
Been there. Done that. Read the book. Worn the t-shirt.
In the end I had my entire top set removed and half my lower set as well as oral surgery to enucleate a cyst. Yeah, I had it THAT bad. :(

I found that SOLUBLE paracetamol and codeine help. 2 at a time.

Ok update :)

I managed to get an earlier appointment (go me)... I had the check up and it seems that I have to have either a route thingy or removing the tooth completely (this is what I went for in the end). Only reason for this was because they said that theres 20% chance that it wont work for the route thingy and that I would have to go back 3 times and £190 lighter.

He explained to me that as I left it for 2 months that the decay had reached the gum and that it may break later on so therefor would be best to just remove the tooth itself and cheaper (£45).

I'm soooooo not looking forward to this :( next Tuesday :(

Ok firstly you wanna be taking paracetamol and ibuprofen for pain relief and anti-inflamatory, take 2 every 2 hrs, so paracetamol, 2 hrs later ibuprofen, and vice versa but still dont go over the recommended allowance the box says, i think you can have 8 of each in a day or something this is what any dentist will tell you, it helps keep the pain away completely, and if its waking you up in the night make sure you try and hold off to take some before you doze off.

And btw its a dentists priority to stop your pain, so even though its just a consultation they will do something there and then, but a week is too long if you're suffering. Not sure where you live? if UK ring the NHS emergency line and get an emergency dentist apointment, every dental clinic in the area has to take on emergency patients, you'll be in a queue i think you call at 6pm, google it, and then you will be put through to a dental nurse tell her whats wrong make sure you emphasis your pain! then you will be given a list of dentists closest to you in the area and you'll get an appointment the next day :)

hope this helps mate, as you can probably tell I have had some problems of late :D but not because of my own doing slags i have amazing teeth.

Root Canals are evil.

Evil.

Hope to christ i never have to get one done again, it was near unbearable. Alas i have learned my lesson and see the dentist when i am told too now, also to the fact that my dentist is now some hot sexy scottish woman, that may play a part...

Root canals are evil I agree, had one at 16 when I didn't take proper care of my teeth and ever since it scarred me brush at least twice a day, floss twice a day, mouth wash etc chewing gum lol.

I had an amazing dentist past few times I've been when I had a mouth infection and check up, 24 blonde hair, hazel eyes, one of those faces that are naturally stunning, and massive boobs which half the time when she was leaning over as im so tall they lower me so much, her baps were spread on my face, occasionally one over each eye :p thats when you know you're gay for sure.

Ok I had the tooth out this morning and my god I really dont want to experience that again... it was NOT NICE...

At the start they put the needle in /trembles the first thing they did was clean my teeth, gums, fillings etc... then got the pliers and pulled the tooth out... by god that wasn't nice... after 20 mins or so there was still tooth left in and the numbness started to fade so I started to feel the tugging on the tooth that was remaining...was hurting like fuck... so he put the needle in again /trembles... and off he went again doing his bits...apparantly I passed out which I do not remember... That could be due to the fact that I never eaten or drunk anything before I went to the dentist. Anyway, finally done so I took the instructions home and a few cotton bits to put in my mouth because of the bleeding...............

.....................4 hours later my mouth still bleeding so I phoned them up to ask is this normal???? the secretary said 'get a T bag and put that in your mouth for 20mins' So I did that and 20 mins later still no change.

I went back to the Dentist and I saw the dentist again and he put some stuff up the bit where the tooth was. after 10 mins of him doing what he does best I again passed out again :( When I come round the Dentist explained to me that I passed out and I had a fit...that has never happened to me before and I dont know why or what triggered it off :(

Depends on the state of the tooth they're pulling, if it crumbles then there will have to be a lot more digging around going on.

That is a bit worrying, if I were you, i'd go to the hospital just to be sure. Might be that it should have been stitched up, i have had stitches before when i have had a tooth removed.

FYI, if you live in the UK and have toothache or need a tooth taking out, go to A&E. I have done this twice and the dentists at the hospital were amazing, both times they cut the gum with a scalpel to get the tooth out and then stitched it up, less than an hour after the bleeding had stopped and the pain receeded in a few more hours. My dentist at the time was incompetent and has caused me long term damage from his botched work. Just because he's a dentist, doesn't mean he isn't human.

If the tooth is on the upper jaw it's not so bad, but im told the lower jaw has a bunch of nerves that need to be carefully avoided.

Had this happen with a wisdom tooth, the dentist broke it three times trying to get it out, i told her to stop and refer me to the Hospital dentist, which she did eventually. Hospital took it our the next morning in a few seconds, they were amazing, didn't even feel the needle going into the gum which usually hurt like hell.

If the root snaps as they're pulling it out then they will have to dig around to get it all out. My guess is that you passed out because you went into shock. Just because you couldn't feel all the pain doesn't mean that you were suffering trauma in your mouth.

I also find that lignocaine (the local anaesthetic) gives me collywobbles a few hours later, like I *could* throw up but not quite sure that I want to. It also makes me feel slightly drained like I've had a load of energy sapped from me.

Pretty much sums it up, add an allergic reaction possibility and such and you could have a winner.

Hospital --> tell -->check --> happy puppy.

/man on

best bet in future situations like that is to tear out the tooth with a pair of pliars and then gouge out the nerves with the screwdriver

/man off

Hmm i really should get my cavity sorted......i have like half a tooth now.....

root canal surgery, that is truelly great fun.

When I was a kid i smashed my 2 front teeth out, managed to get myself into some dental journals apparently because even at the top London Dental hospital they still had never encountered spiral fractures in the root canals.... dont i feel special.

I detest dentists now but they seem to like me.... after spending upto 8hrs in a dentist chair a day I learnt to just relax... sometimes so much I actually fall asleep whilst dentists work on me.

Shame i got lasting damage, blood vessels are all fecked so already got 4 crowns for front teeth and probably end up needing more. Bloody expensive :(
