totally agree. they are real people after all, whether you have met them in person or not. Its not much similar than only talking with someone on the phone, or via snail mail, except the obvious comment (omg SHE is a bloke etc), which frankly is pretty irrelevant anyway.

Having said that, taking a bottle to pee in instead of taking a min away from the PC is pretty desperate.

Some people just have different hobbies in my opinion and take them to different levels of obsession.
i.e someone who works out 3-4 times a week, then someone who works out twice a day, seven days a week, does'nt go out and takes all the suppliments he can take.

Maybe not a good comparison but you get my drift.

I can understand if he/she is quite young and it's affecting the education etc, but if the person is old enough why should there hobby seem socially inept all of a sudden.

theres nothing wrong with having online mates tbh u gotta go thro the same processes of getting to know someone as u would if u were talkin to them face to face. n with the advances in instant messaging u could be live webcam an mic chatting to them so what would be the difference to talkin to someone down the pub?
its only ever the few oddbals that take it to the extreme an forget real life exists(read lack of hygiene/never leave the house etc) that give online interaction a bad name.its this negative image that gets blasted all over the news cos its shocking an not the storys of normal folks happily accomodating net use with rl leading to a large number of non net users thinking that any kind of net socialisation is weird/a bad thing/something only folks that cant get 'real' friends do.
