It may be on all day, but it will consume more power if you put something warm inside it. Therefore you're actually heating your house up, along with yourself.

You'd be cooler if you shut all the curtains and turned everything off. Simple physics.

Simple mind more like. Houses don't heat evenly and most people want the cool air upstairs at night, usually where the bulk of their electrical appliances aren't. No-one is going to turn off their freezer, so you're just being a silly pedant. Stop it. By the way its 90% humidity here and I'm covered in bites and feeling a bit tetchy so pack it in.

Just puzzles me why people think using appliances that heat their homes to cool them down later is somehow going to work.

I used to do a similar thing to the bottle thing, I used to freeze ice cube bags and them seleotape them to the front of fan. probably not the safest cooling device, but it was fucking hot so I didn't care.

Make sure you have two bottles though, possibly 3, so you can rotate them being in front of the fan. In this heat they will melt pretty quickly :D

No no no Wij, not so.

You see the fridge generates heat when it's cooling your lager - so great taste and feel of a nice chilled lager actually is a LIE A LIE I TELL YOU. Overall you're warmer because of it.

No. But I am contributing to the heat death of the universe :)

Would using your freezer affect that plane taking off from the conveyor belt though? Does freezing your toast affect how many rounds it is? Would Cal's home made aircon cool down the Jew's and Arabs enough to be friends? Is Tom really suggesting we turn things off and save energy?

I just had an ice cold bath with an ice cold beer. Get out and blast yourself with your fan, and its like an arctic breeze for about 30 minutes. Apparently it destroys your sperm or something. I'm not fussed.

impossible :) unless the heat's gotten to him :D

tbh I went biking this afternoon and once I got back I felt decidedly the worse for wear. also the 4 day Nijmegen walk has been called off due to people dying from heat related stuff.

hehe no, not my cat, though I'd not mind a cat that can pull a face like that! it merely reflects that inner-tdc quite well :)

On the radio today they said that some (all?) tube lines were closed due to the tracks being too hot...

Aren't they like made of metal or something with really high melting points? and they're underground how can they get so dammed hot???

Anyway, it doesn't matter to me cause I live bloody miles away from London, and glad of it. Although, more shaded areas would be nice...

And sod the fan malarkey, I've taken to freezing a couple of bottles of water (yes I know, heats the flat up etc, we're on top friggin floor anyway, so a little extra heat ain't gonna matter) and then taking one out, waiting for some of it melt and then drinking the loverly ice cold water...mmmm....

Edit: Crap spelling

They expand and then buckle, which could lead to derailments and cause far more than some commuters to be late home.
