I mean whats the point in them? finger nails are extremely useful but what is the point in toenails, they serve no purpose.
I now have my second ingrowing toenail and its infected my toe causing it to throb like a bitch. Having been through the removal of one and remembering the pain of the needle as it scratched against my bone and the pain that followed when the feeling in my leg returned, Im not looking forward to going to the hospital tomorrow.

Want me to post my pics again ????

Ive had my toenails removed a number of times - believe me they do have a purpose.

Example : no nail on big toe of left foot.

Walking up concrete stairs on holiday with open toed sandals and dragged my foot up the face. Ripped off the skin and it hurt like a bitch.

thats what shoes are for, and socks, I still believe they serve no purpose.

The fact that you ripped the skin on your toe is because of the toenail, as it had probably been there most of you life the skin underneath your toenail hadn't had the chance to harden like the rest of your foot.

the toenail was removed about 9 years before the "incident" so had plenty time to harden.

You'd never catch me wearing sandals, or slippers for that matter.

Bearing in mind that most mammals use their feet for almost the same purpose as their hands(Most don't even have a distinction between the 2), i think it's fair to say we don't have "toe" nails for any specific reason.

However, i think they proberbly help keep the shape of your toes, and stop your skin there getting all weird. I have scraped my foot against something painful on 2 occasions.

One time, i caught my little toe in a carpet seperator(The things on the floor under door frames). It wasn't even one where the carpet's worn away - God knows how hard my foot went into it, to make such a gash on my little toe. That was the proberbly the most pain i've ever felt. I also recently caught the side of my foot against a (brick) wall, whilst taking some stuff out to the wheelie bin, without wearing shoes. That was painful, and made a cut in the end of my little toe, but not nearly as bad.

The point is, that these kind of gashes would proberbly slice off the skin at the end of your toe, if your nail wasn't there to hold it together closely...

ok while we're on the subject why do men have nipples, and why do your teeth develope for a few years fall out when they're still perfectly healthy and get replaced then not fall out and get replaced when you really could do with them to?

We have nipples, because male featuses develop as females, untill a fair way into the growth period, where the paths develop differantly.
Think how dumb we'd look without them... And think how much it would suck, if you couldn't impress people by reffering to them as "Defunct male milk glands".

Baby teethe are developed when you're young, and grow faster and more easily than proper teethe. They couldn't last any where near as long as adult teethe, but by the same logic, a baby wouldn't be able to grow adult teethe, since they're so much better.

Goats, and similar animals, have teethe that contiuously grow. This is nessacery because the amount of grass they chew wares their teethe down a fair bit.

I swear the topics in here are getting more and more insane :)

I've never had an ingrowing toenail, thought I made somebody elses considerably worse when I was at primary school by dropping a chair on their toe and sitting on it.

I stubbed my liitle toe on the corner of a skirting board last year. It hurt like a bitch, I looked down and the nail was hanging off. So decided to nip to local hospital (lass than a mile away). Huge queue so returned home. Rang a friend who is a nurse, she told me they would just remove it, so ran some warm water in the bath, put my foot in it, got the pliers out and PULL!!!!.
It grew back fairly quickly though.

I also get ingrowing nails on my big toes, have done for years. I use very sharp and narrow scissors and a strong pair of tweazers, hurts like fuck but at least I'M in control of the pain.

My little toe now has an ingrown nail after bashing it against a doorframe REALLY hard about 6 weeks ago. It's not infected or anything, no puss or gore - just VERY painful.

Toenail sort of split down the middle when I banged it and the outer half has now kind of got stuck under the skin. Really not looking forward to having ot sorted out, as I've never had one and all the stories I've heard have been pretty scary :/
