To the Uber guilds - a question...

This is directly aimed at those we know to be RP scavangers of the highest order, and theres no point in me not naming guilds, as lets face it, we all know which ones we consider this, aye?

So, to Nolby, Lakers, Borg, 7th sigs, HDS, and any others who absolutely trounce in the RP tables:

What are you all aiming for? I mean what do you win for all thse RPs you have?

I only ask as i don't understand how so many of you have the personal time to spend so long logged in and why you treat the RvR like an actual RL achievement, to the point of being able to PL to 50 and be RR5 within like a fortnight or something.

If there is a grand prize that i know nothing of, for being the guild with the highest number of RPs, then please let me know - it baffles me that you folk appear to be so desperate to have more RPs than the next that you spend more time than can possibly be healthy achieving it.

This isn't intended as a flame, it is actually a genuine question, as no matter how much i love the game (for all its bugs and niggles) i physically get back ache, finger ache and a headache from staring at the monitor for so long, but you guys seem to have a higher purpose. An agenda known only to the l33t? :p

Would be nice to get a reply from one of Nolby, just because you guys seem to be touring the world with new accounts on new servers all over the shop - HOW DO YOU EVEN AFFORD THAT?

RvR = fun.
Small group battles = fun.

People do it for fun, the RPs are just what the game rewards for it. At least that's my take.

As for what you win, you improve your character via RAs. Why kill mobs for hours? It makes your character better. Same goes for killing players (except players give more interesting fights IMO).

We all know.

Fun :)

Fun. :)

We have fun at trying to be the one with the highest amount of realm points. :) Maybe you don't understand, but I can't say it better. :)

Same as people who work really hard to have a load of money and buy a ******* expensive car just to look good. Or buy 20 cars and put them in front of your house, it's no use either just like games, but it's fun to look good, aye?

Haha, there is no prize, just the "title" :)

We like computer games more than you and we are more used to looking at a screen? (btw, get a monitor better than 15" and 60hz if you get a headache)

Would be nice to get a reply from one of Nolby, just because you guys seem to be touring the world with new accounts on new servers all over the shop - HOW DO YOU EVEN AFFORD THAT?
I don't play with NP on MLF, but I have played DAoC for a very long time and it's much much more cheaper than buying a new single player game each month.

And as for the long-time rp "farming", yes i wish there was more to RvR than just running around a frontier killing anything you see :)

Could ask the question.. why do you roleplay ingame?

I'd guess it's because you enjoy it.. I rvr because I enjoy the challenge of fighting players instead of AI. The rp's are just a way of keeping track of how well I'm doing :>

Dont see how you are not meaning this as a flame, your just enticing a flame-fest with you word trickery

Think the thing is, once you reach lvl50, you have a limited choice of ways to play your character. Roleplaying, Farming, Powerleveling, Crafting...a mix and match of some of the above.

Now, im sure you being in templars has alot to do with the type of role/playing style suited to you. A much more social/friendly atmos, where the members are very much into having a good old get together and a few beers, emotes being the order of the day.

Just because the very active RP guilds have differing attitudes of members, they shouldnt get all this aggro forced at them. They are RP guilds for a reason, they are more often than not, skilled players, and the groups they put out on the field are well put together.

Yes i am from the #Borg# as you put it, am sure this thread will prove quite interesting from the more...******d thinkiers.

Anywho, must get tea sorted, resistance is futile as they say

I still haven't figured out why a lot of roleplayers thinks playing this game for RvR means you're a 14 year old "leet" kid with no life.
Look at it this way..if you feel the need to log in and roleplay, and pretending to be someone you're not..isn't it your life that's sad then ?

RvR is at the centre of DAOC. Any skills you get for your character are designed to be used in RvR, any drops you pick up are to make your character better in RvR, any items you get crafted and then spellcrafted are best put to use in RvR.

Its only by competing with your fellow players that you know if you are specced right, equipped right and, particularly, any good at playing your character and being part of a team.

Any fool can kill monsters all day and, generally, it is just fools that do that. There is little or no variety in the way the monsters look or in the way they act. They have no ability to design tactics, to adopt to changing situations.

RvR and PvP is what makes MMORPG's fun.

Without wishing to be nasty - one doesn't need an online game to roleplay, and one doesn't need to level to 50 to sit in The Stone and talk about how wonderful we all are/who we are getting married to :p

Sadly RvR does get repetitive, probably because such a small percentage of the entire game area is devoted to it. Meaning that anyone looking for decent PvP has to run with half of their own realm ... and the zerg is born :(

Well erm.. £6 ( now £8 ) is very little money per month.

Even if you don't have a job you can spare that out of government money..

Usualy if someone gos to play on the US servers they let the EU server account run out...

I rvr'ed for fun when I played. I find pve utterly boring.

RP's show how well your doing, you can compair the rp of your guild with others to see how well each are doing.

Personally i enjoy the rvrscene more than sitting in ludlow tavern emoting. Why you might ask since i'm a great fan of roleplaying, both pen-and-paperstyle and computerrpgs and even some live roleplaying..

It's just that i don't think daoc is a rpg.. it's a fpsgame in a fantasy enviroment. Face it, there is not much more depths in daoc than in a regular fpsgame.

So, that's my reason. Now, back to dancing like derric..

What are you all aiming for? I mean what do you win for all these RPs you have?

Realm Rank gives you +1 to all skills, per level., i.e rr2/3/4/5/6/7/8/9/10. maximum being 10L10, hence gaining +9all skills and be able to spread 100 points over realm abilities, which enhance your char.

I only ask as i don't understand how so many of you have the personal time to spend so long logged in and why you treat the RvR like an actual RL achievement, to the point of being able to PL to 50 and be RR5 within like a fortnight or something.

There are only a few classes, who can powerlevel a char to 50 fast, and they are not that good in well balanced rvr groups. rr5 fortnight? You know, a working (guild) group can achieve great things. Personal rp whoring, as you would call it, record stands at 14x.xxx rp one day. was something like 10+ hours of PvP fun.

If there is a grand prize that i know nothing of, for being the guild with the highest number of RPs, then please let me know - it baffles me that you folk appear to be so desperate to have more RPs than the next that you spend more time than can possibly be healthy achieving it.

No one in SotL actually feels 1337 about the fact, that we happen to be the most rp having guild on prydwen, that's our long taken achievement, and yes, it does feel quite nice.

Desperate(read answer to quote #1)? Right. We happen to know what we are doing, hence TEAM. Healthy? How do you actually define healthy? The fact, that we play alot more than you, seems to make bothered , good, kindly FOAD.

This isn't intended as a flame, it is actually a genuine question, as no matter how much i love the game (for all its bugs and niggles) i physically get back ache, finger ache and a headache from staring at the monitor for so long, but you guys seem to have a higher purpose. If this isn't intended to be a flame, but a simple question: how and why, then try not to be SO GOD DAMN INSULTING.
You seem to have a higher purpose of your own, to be a twat, basically. Again, read previous answers to quotes.

Would be nice to get a reply from one of Nolby, just because you guys seem to be touring the world with new accounts on new servers all over the shop - HOW DO YOU EVEN AFFORD THAT?

Ok, I am not in NP, but played with them on Camlann. Some of them (the "core" or whatever you would call it) Love the game alot, hence try new things, because, as in everything, repeating the same can get a little boring at times.)

Thank you for reading!

Suggesting people from 'Uber guilds' are just RvRing to get more RPs to boost their ego/to be 1337/because they're desperate/whatever would be the same as stating roleplayers are only roleplaying some virtual alter ego because they're unhappy with their real life selves.

ie: Maybe true in a few cases, but total bs otherwise. :p

Why do you roleplay? Because you think it's fun I'd guess.

Now guess why we do diehard RvR.

Iam sure many of the rp guilds are also the guilds that have nice drops items. RP gives faster way to kill mobs, so less time needed to farm.
Now all stats resist caped farmed to buy weapons and amor then what ? well 2 option go rvr or make a new char.

Sorry Derric but I think thats stupid, Roleplaying is something alot of us enjoy and also has a big part of the game, cant see why we shouldnt have a life just because we like to roleplay. We are already an extremly small part of people doing it, dont make it smaller.

What I mean is that DAoC can offer BOTH of these things, RvR and roleplay, you just have to use your imagination, but I guess its hard for the RvR oriented guilds to see that, meanwhile, respect the ones that does it.

And by the way I dont have anything against RvR oriented guilds as long as they dont work/communicate inside the guild ONLY.

Ok,I'll try explain my point here.
If people choose to roleplay that's perfectly allright with me.It's their choice and as long as I don't pay for their sub I respect that choice.
For some reason I have seen various posts from random members from Albion's biggest roleplaying guild giving me the image that they have zero respect for me and my guildmates way of playing this game.
So until they have the maturity and common decency to respect us I would like to express myself in a way I try to refrain from on public forums:Fuck off

And hey,I still like popcorn.
