The most "common" way i've seen/heard of it is as follows:

Web pages with Java Script can be set up to copy your clipboard contents without you knowing about it (unless you disable the feature in your IE settings).

Now, most people have their game password in a text doc, then copy it to their clipboard, then paste it into the password field when logging in. (coz they're so bloody difficult to remember)

If its in your clipboard, and you visit a site with this simple piece of Java, hey presto, your password is "stolen" and if the web site owner can work out/knows your name, there u go, they can enter the game as u and do wotever they want.

There are other ways obviously, so keeping your firewall software/anti-virus up to date is a good idea.

As for the IE settings, to disable copying of clipboard, i'll dig out the settings laster if i can find them - think i posted elsewhere on boards but not sure where... as for Netscape etc, soz, not sure...

and Piglet - /cry - that sux m8 :( hope u catch the f*cker...

Usually the account isn't hacked in a conventional way, it's just used by the original or some previous owner..

ow if you get that java script, you also know the person ip and you can get the ip off around 90% of the people on irc if not more. So it may take some time, but you can track him down :).

Ever tried to really investigate someone with only IRC to start with?

Tried it a while ago on a random irc user and it was kinda scary what I could find out, after looking around for an hour or two I had his cell phone number, house address, MSN, ICQ, webpages, forums he had visited and pictures of the person in question, so information can be found everywhere if you're willing to look it up. (kinda sure that I'd find out more about this person if I was willing to look it up, but didn't bother with that since I'd proven to myself that it could be done...)

Hmm, that wouldn't work on the average person though..
Every computer n00b has a firewall installed there days right? :)

In my case it would be fairly easy to find my home address and such by IP address, but I'm not trying to keep it a secret anyway really (amazing what a whois on tiwaz.org tells you, so no point in doing so..)

Being "Robbed" is beyond me.

Unless you shared your info willingly, there isn't really much one can do. Which i suspect all "Robbed" players did.

Another way I can think of, are keyloggers and trojans. Careful what programs you install, freeware is nice, but it's also not that safe, in security terms. Don't accept Orgasm.Exe, as Damini did. Resist the urge of accepting Monixxx.jpg.exe aswell. She's a man.

Playing from a computer club ? Well I am too. Check your msconfig often, for stuff that shouldn't be in the startup section. Download TaskInfo, and use it. You can see ALL the open modules (*.dll's), and ALL the open processes, with full path of program execution.
If there's something nasty living on your computer, Taskinfo will see it. Proceed to uninstall everything spooky. Getting advice from a nearby friendly Computer Literate person would be a good Idea. We don't need you deleting win.com.

Sure, sharing account might look like a good idea at times. But DON'T do it unless you know him irl and you can kick his ass, in the eventuality of something bad happening. Apply common sense, Internet Personality != Irl Personality. Guy that helped you ingame Isn't your best friend. Yes, I'm talking to you, you sociopath wanker. Giving him your account doesn't prove jackshit. Don't do it, unless you're ready to support the consequences.

Ah, e-mail. Quite a few lines in my bag on this subject aswell.
Most of us use free Web Based E-mail addresses. How reliable is their security ? Well it is, since cracking e-mail addresses is not worth it. Hacker would play lotto, not knowing what they find. Only true pervs do that sort of shit.

E-mail Password. For the love of god, avoid having your password as "123456" or "qwerty". You need your password AT LEAST 9 characters long, and use special characters, numbers and letters in it. Don't use the same password for all your e-mail addresses either. Not smart. If you can print the e-mail you got from GOA, with your account info, do that. Print 5 copies, and spread em thru your house, just so you can find at least one in case you need it. :) Delete the e-mail after that.
If that's not the case, then try to change your e-mail password at least once per month. Consider adding a letter or a number to your current one, so it's easier for you to get used to changing it often.

Those that can, DON'T use Internet Explorer. It being integrated in the OS is not very secure. Try Opera, try Mozilla, they're better and more reliable.

Apply common sense, and happy playing. Fruitcake out.

I didn't accept it!!! :twak:

It just auto installed :( Visiting a link somebody posted on these forums I might add.

P.S. If anyone in this thread is a computer genius, can they PM me and explain why my PC keeps making "BOIT!" noises randomly?

P.P.S This guy might not even be talking about hacking, he may just have done the "Oooh, can i try on your armour" or "I'll help you transfer that" thing. You never know...

It could be some hardware conflict, and your pc is warning you. That, or overheated processor. Check system & proccessor temperature in Bios, and set it to warn you when the proccessor temperature exceeds 60 celsius.
It could also be your processor fan being tired. Check that out too.

Orgasm.exe™
