i have been crafting since day 1 in daoc ( armourcraft ) and tbh crafting is not fun reason i started was to do somthing while lfg as a druid i was not able to do much solo, so it was a ok way to use time ... watch the green bar ...... and the posibility to make some gold was a nice side gain we got SI and man did ppl want armours at that point MP 99% even 98% was sold then ToA hit ( i do like toa ) and only MP can be sold. im pretty sure the same is valid for tailors / weapon smiths, and due to not be able to sell 99% more prices get higher ofc.

so why keep crafting ? its not for the gold thats sure as u can easy farm alot of stuff and get alot higher gold/hour rate,

one thing is for guild mambers they even still get it for material price but for the random realm ppl ?

do u still take orders from ppl u dont know and how do u set prices now ?

when i played i would just craft when i was fed up of being zerged (i played solo 90% of the time) or when we didnt have DF. If i made any MPs i would check the current price on the ME and undercut them, sell for 20% cheaper, didnt make all that much money from it, but still made a small profit.
I didnt do orders, except guildies and friends, because people just whine about the price, they dont seem to understand that you are actually doing them a favour and you could make far more money from farming scrolls and or artifacts or even trinketing.

daoc always had craft prices 2 low.

some point there were 2 many crafters, prices were down, i did 2 LGM's and i think i sold 1 MP as it was a friend asking.

never sold any MP's , used all my self what i needed or gaved away for free.

crafting in daoc
1. 2 freaking slow
2. 2 many of them
3. 2 expensive to make
4. 2 cheap to sell
5. 2 many craftmacro proggys
6. 2 many crafters old days and that leaded to 2 few crafters
7. 2 few items could made from loot, all were same stuff
8. 2 boring 2 craft
9. 2 expensive MP's to make to customers as they never figured out how much it actually takes time
10. 2 2 2 2 2 2 2

Thats bullshit and you know it
most crafters charge from 1-20 plat on top of craft value for orders, prices are higher than they have ever been.

with farming: 10 plat an hour, not telling how :flame:
with crafting: 1 plat in 10 hours

(no kidding)

bes tprofit on crafting is hinging or spellcrafting which is boring as hell

as a wc'er i atleast have the option to make lw, gives a little profit... but havent crafted any "ordinary" weapon for ages... And even the lw gives little in return when the 99% goes for 5p

Well, couldn't agree more on the fact that crafters get no appreciation mostly. :-p

It's nearly ridiculous when you've spent months of time and loads of plat to get LGM and then often people just whine their head off when 'you greedy ...' try to make a little profit and didn't get the items ready yesterday. :(

I really don't know how someone can get people to pay several plats of profit, for me 1p would be kinda huge amount. ;)

But to original question. I still do alchemy orders for anyone since it's easy to keep stock and qua doesn't matter. However armors and such I practically only do for people I know.

What makes me laugh is that some people pm me to ask for mp orders.. (hey fine by me, might earn a few on it) but the fact that they'd rather have it all in 5 mins than waiting for lets say a week so you aren't stuck with your head in crafting ALL the time - makes me really laugh.

They don't even seem to realise how long it takes for 1 MP to craft, let alone a whole set... and people do get to sleep and eat and relax... no?

Are you talking about on the spot MPs or what? No doubt markups are often ludicrously high, but I've never heard of 20 plat. Personally I use the marketplace for most purchasing (I do my own SCing), markups of 500% are not uncommon, but this rarely means more than half a plat for single items.

It certainly is a shame the way crafting has turned out, a hell of a lot of work for very little gain, and with a very slim supply base leading to huge prices, leading to poorer/low level (except thid) chars not bothing to buy at all, leading to there being no incentive for anybody to start crafting unless they're going to go the whoooole way...

Anyway crafting is one of those things that has been ignored for a very long time, it *could* easily be improved with a few small...ok large, changes, including some unashamed copying of ideas off other popular games - but isn't that what MMORPG design is all about ;)

We'll just have to hope.

Imo the main problem for crafters is the people who order them.
Moaning about prices when they have no idea how much stuff costs to make or how much time it takes.
And people wonder why theres barely any crafters?

Agreed. As a fletcher I don't get anything, but I had to go back to /setwho class on my SCer as I got tired of people a) Requiring SCing on a thid suit, for peanuts money, b) Willing to argue about my pricing policy. So from now on, I'm only doing things for people I know and I do them for free. As another poster said, there are ways you can make a lot of money withing half an hour (once i made 50p in 15 mins) so...

Crafting sucks sooo bad, I can't believe I got all the way up, I'd never consider it again. Life is too short, we pay to have fun not sit there like a braindead moron pressing a button.

As for commsions, still have a full set in my vault from the last idiot that I never saw again.

And what's the point of it all afer TOA anyhow? What a waste of a life crafting.

I'm SCer, and I have to say I'm making some money on it. Not much, but actually worth the hassel.

It's the BG-sets thats killing me - often it is 6 + 2 items = 32-gems-in-inventory-mix-up-thingy

And since it's so cheap to create, I earn perhaps 50-100 gold on the job. I actually feel it's more job doing BG-set then 5.5 OC.

Whats your opinion about charging full prices even on BG-items?

Genuine lowbie, and new players will ofcourse not be an option. But for people with 100 plat in the bank, lvl 20, PL to 24, and then head thid with his new stealther / archer fotm char is what I'm thinking of. Those people are more common then the "genuine" ones.

Up til now I have only charged materialcost for BG-sets. But tbh, I'd rather kill something when I press buttons on quickbar then fill my inventory with greycon jewels :)

i've also had the same kinda people ask me "if i email all my items, can you make me a BG template".....making templates is a pain in the ass.

WC-er and the only reason i make money =

my guild sc-er gives me 30 gems at a time for cost price
i have acces to a LGM alchy
we have a summ sm who sells me Legend Drops 500g for 9 colddrops

this way when i sell a 96% legendary cheap and i can still make a little money.

99% is 5p
MP is 15p

made 85 Legends so far and no MP yet
but the 99% 's make it worth my while

Initially I also charged low prices for BGs, but then I realised that almost anybody who wants a SCed suit for thid or molvik can probably afford it. Most players who are levelling their first character won't even have heard of SCing and certainly won't care too much even if they have. Those who want a fully SCed suit are probably intending to stay in the BG, and play it once in a while for some good old fasioned 1v1 ownage, these people will almost certainly have a lvl50...or three, and several hundered gold will be no big deal to them.

Many will still object to this after they calculate the markup as being 1000%+ - and don't have a clue how long it takes to level a crafter or even make an SC order - so to be sure, I always tell them the price upfront, before even thinking about the order. I still do it much cheaper for guildies though.

Imo, I think perhaps crafted items should include more utility to make them more attractive.
Also, they should make some craft quests where one can gain 10-15 points skill, and not just run for craft knives all the time. Would be a starters for making crafting a little more fun than press button xxx times while watching a movie ^^...

500g for cold trinkets, that's hard mate. I get them for free since no one buys em :)

edit/

Managed to make 1 mp mattersword, the only mp lgm weapon made so far. Wouldn't even dream of taking a mp order on a lgm weapon.

My thoughts on crafting;

They should add new skins to weapons/fletching and armour, maybe even using special drops like the special alch pots.

Add 2 more slots to crafted items

Add toa bonus's to the alch line

Improve the procs all round

i find the only craft i can make any good money on is SC these days, fletching dont think i have done an order since way before toa came out.

ive only recently joined the spellcraft +800 club as i have in the passed never gotten passed 400 in any major craft.

I dont get pmmed by people asking for thid sets i also state that any overcharging they do is at their own risk as i wont remake gems and they have to have a template ready.

I find the ones that take the longest time are the ones that dont use spellcrafting calculators and can just send me the xml file.

I think if people realised that saying to me +1 str +10 parry is much easier than giving me the name of the gems which ive got to then go looking for.

The only reason im getting lgm spellcraft is for the guild because ive found middy excal to be damn expensive at best.
