There is a song (by hammerfall) I always hear as a tribute when someone I know passes away. I wanted to share it with you guys, here it is:

GLORY TO THE BRAVE (HAMMERFALL)
Snow is falling down on this glorious land
colors fading, turning into white again
To fallen heroes angels sting, they cry their winter tears
endless mourning days will turn to years

So this is goodbye, I take leave of you and
spread your wings and you will fly away now, fly away now

Nothing on earth stays forever
but none of your deeds were in vain
Deep in our hearts you will live again
you're gone to the home of the brave

Every solemn moment I will treasure inside
even though it's hard to understand
that a silent wind can blow that candle out
taking everything leaving the pain far behind

You call out my name, but your voice is fading
into the wind, embraced, you'll fly away now, fly away now

Nothing on earth stays forever
but none of your deeds were in vain
Deep in our hearts you will live again
you're gone to the home of the brave

My eyes are closed I feel you're faraway (so close)
far beyond that shining star
I know you'll find what you've been fighting for
far beyond that shining star

Down on bended knee I pray, bring courage to these souls
make'em live forever in the heart of the bold
So I say farewell my friends, I hope we'll meet again
when my time has come to fall from the grace

So this is goodbye, I take leave of you and
spread your wings and you will fly away now, fly away now

Nothing on earth stays forever
but none of your deeds were in vain
Deep in our hearts you will live again
you're gone to the home of the brave

One piece of work that I have always felt comforting for these occasions, and which might be in tune to many people, is J.R.R. Tolkien's "Lament of the Rohirrim":

Where now the horse and the rider? Where is the horn that was blowing?
Where is the helm and the hauberk, and the bright hair flowing?
Where is the hand on the harpstring, and the red fire glowing?
Where is the spring and the harvest and the tall corn growing?
They have passed like rain on the mountain, like a wind in the meadow;
The days have gone down in the West behind the hills into shadow.
Who shall gather the smoke of the dead wood burning,
Or behold the flowing years from the Sea returning?

Rest in peace, Freddy's Fallen.

My respects for all the fallen.

As I myself lost my father almost 12 years ago from cancer as a young boy of 19,i find myself empathising with all of u that has lost loved ones. I read this poem only a few days ago and think its a great way of honoring the fallen!

A Viking Dode Prayer

I, the one, the remnant of ashes,
ancestor bound, legend bound, future wed
call upon my kin, my Viking kin- Lead me,
lead me to the portal door… for Odin calls.
My walk upon the soils of time does end.
I seek the path that legend lore has paved.
The pull is great, but no fear have I.
A doorway only, another world does wait.
Allfather, Odin, hear my call, as my kin echo,
my pyre waits, gladly will I ascend.
Upon your will, upon your blessing,
this Viking waits.
