To Thane or not to Thane

That is the question... should I roll a thane? And if I do, what spec should I go for? I've heard they are gimped to hell and back, but a tank with aoe still sounds rather good fun. As for the spec, I was thinking along the lines of 42 hammer, 48 stormcalling, 42 shield, which leaves no points left for parry... opinions?

Have to be careful firing off AOE m8 or else youll end up with all the healers cursing you :/ i always though giving a tank class aoe was a bad idea

Thanes are an "old" Midgard class as they've been hit by the nerf bat pretty bad, cheesy aoe and wank pbaoe shouts and not really too hot in melee either.

With risk of offending people i'd go Skald or Zerker as a melee class as you'll find most excisting high lvl Thanes are pretty annoyed with thier chars.

Zerker gives you the ability to down casters and support classes faster then any other tank in the game and skalds give you good grp tools such as resist chants, speed, dd's, mezz, half decent melee and parry 2 boot along with the ability to solo well.

If your deffo going Thane that spec seems ok, but you can get away with taking some from sc and putting into parry and slam is deffo the way to go, race wise you cant go wrong with norseman.

I play a Thane as my main character, and although they are seen as gimped I still really enjoy playing her. I have a skald also, but generally play my Thane. I have never had a problem finding a group, either in PVE or in RVR.


I suppose the question you have to ask yourself is do I want to play for myself and enjoy the character for what it is or for the realm of Midgard.
If you chose to defend the realm of Midgard then I strongly suggest you look at playing another character.

Skalds, Warriors (yes warriors) and Bezerkers are better than thanes and bring more to a group. There is nothing a Thane can do that one of these 3 classes cant do better

and they sure as hell can't break mez on the entire alb army.

This comes from the other AE class that breaks an armys mezz, LOL

Seriously, ignore tha assholes who flame this char, they just went for the n00b easy to play chars!

But Poon is dead right, we are nerfed to hell, youd think being a Thor like char, we'd be pretty kewl to be in Midgard, but alas we are nerfed by the fact we are 20% caster, 60% melee and 20% that Mythic could not be arsed to finish.

A fun char all the same IMO, but Id tip you towards Skalds or Zerkers tbh.

Your template sounds good to me. I have 42 hammer 42 shield 46 sc(for last damage add) 13 parry and it works really nicely both in pve and rvr, cause i have last mjolnir and damage add, and dear slam that is my only attribute to a group in RvR.
48 sc sound maybe a bit too much, since u rarely do have time to cast that last lightining in rvr and even if u do it has 30sec timer(20 in 1.53), but the damage is quite crappy, so imo no need to go beyond 46 sc.
Anyways still i wouldn't recommend making a thane to anyone since we are badly nerfed and there aint no light in the end of the tunnel.
