Beware folks, Microsoft released an important security update: Download details: Security Update for SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 2 (KB948109)
It seems that it bypasses the normal behaviour of either Windows Update and WSUS but since they somehow fucked it up it doesn't install properly and also it doesn't restart Sql Service.
Workaround to install it atm seems manual, turn off service, run the package and then restart service.

If you patch something and then dont check if its running afterwards you have no business being paid to admin it. I'm not saying you do, Gahn, but in general.

Thanks for the headsup tho.

Production servers just should never do that. WSUS into a test environment & let some VM machine eat itself. If it lasts 2 weeks then allow WSUS to patch out to your production servers.

Though I know you're a sound bloke Gahn & only letting us know. Fortunately the 4 SQL servers I have are all 2000 & as old as the hills.
