to pad or not to pad

Dudes,

I'm seriously considering purchasing an Asus Transformer Prime. I was wondering though:
I'm prolly only going to use it for document creation (doc's, PDF, etc), some light browsing/mailing and if possible coding in Java and/or C.

So, for the latter: does anyone know how such a tablet handles such things? I mean, can I install an IDE like Eclipse on it (java tbh)? Will it let me code on it, or should I really just use the laptop for that?

This is mostly because I like traveling light, and even though my Vaio weighs almost nothing it's still a relatively large package to lug about.

I've the ASUS Transformer (TF101) but I don't really use it in the same way you are planning to, I would suggest you perhaps consider the Ultrabooks which should see another shift down in price soon.

Not really what I'm after Emb. I want the tablet as my laptop (the newest Sony Z) is tiny and light...but it's still a laptop. The tablet is going to completely replace the paper in my office (hopefully).
If such a thing could actually run an IDE, it would be fully awesome. If not, it will replace enough things and deliver enough functionality to please me.

Given your very specific needs a Ultrabook with Windows or Linux might better suit your needs? IMO tablets are OK for light web browsing but for any in depth stuff i would say the screen will do your head in.

tbh look at the apps on android market place if there are apps there that can get rid of you pappery stuff then take the plunge, but use your sony z for coding.

or wait for a proper linux based tablet to come out think some like Spark or the one ubuntu developing for ( cant remeber the name) you should be able do what you want

well tbh my Z is practically an ultrabook if I leave the battery pack at home I guess. it only weighs a kilo or so.

so, if a tablet won't run an IDE (which tbh I already figured it wouldn't), then I could still potentially wirte code. what I really need is a linux tablet with decent specs!

an iPad or something similar could run a IDE if you jailbreak it maybe not Eclipse though..

Best to just stick with a laptop really..

It is, as always, about software for your platform.

If you use eclipse and there isn't and Android version then you're wasting your time.

Guys, I can get a pad with a (slight) discount atm, and my choices are basically Asus eee transformer (not the prime) or Samsung Galaxy tab 2 (or, distant third an iPad2). Help me out here!
