Last couple of games I've purchased have been from Ebay or cheap sites like Play.com.

Besides, wait a month or two and prices for games usually drop to £19.99 and even on my budget, once every couple of months that is affordable.

You still live at home i take it? As parental units seem to be getting questioned.

When you have your own place to pay for then things change drastically. A 20k salary wont get you very far, especially if need to buy/rent in major towns. But even outside of major towns it still an issue. Not using my recent accomadation as there other stuff to look into expenses for it that alot dont have so i go for previous rented address.

Earnings of approximately 1.3k a month.
Rent of £800 a month (Hampshire an expensive area to rent in+council tax)
Food £250 month
misc (car, electric etc) £200+

So that leaves next to nothing to play about with if you are living at your own place alone. If got 20k for deposit then can get mortgage on decent place for maybe £650 month which helps. But generally you have a budget that gives no leeway, unlike when you live at home with parents

nevermind. i can tell from your other post that the real troubles of life are far beyond your years anyway. if you think it's such a big feat to 'juggle your money' between a gf and some birthdays - try holding down a job, a home, a kid, etc. etc. like the rest of the adult world.

i seriously am not having a dig, and i completely understand your naivety as it is perfectly normal for someone your age - but it is massively patronising to talk the way you are about independence when you have all your food, bills and other living costs paid for you.

That's such a poor arguement because we're basing things here on the scaling of life. Going by your logic, only those with the 'best' experiance are allowed to give their opinions on things. Sorry then dude, but I bet alot of people are in a worse situation than you. You cannot speak now :(

Sure I don't pay for the bills - but then I don't work 40 hours+ a week either. That's because i'm in education. And I will pay for the bills when i'm older, quite easily infact, cause I will be a rich son of a bitch ^^

In your case - don't download it nor buy it then.

That way, you're not mugging another person trying to earn a salary off and you're not jepardising yourself...

i patiently await the day you're out on your arse and realise is nothing like the bed of roses you expect it to be. i put forward a perfectly logical and well-reasoned argument - if you're going to be a trite little shit then fuck you. the way you talk makes it more and more obvious that you're totally ignorant of the world that you expect to get 'fuckin' rich' off of.

idiot.

If you are tolerant towards anything, you condone it Bugz. Elbeeks already put it best when he said you're excused from not having a clue what you're talking about because you're young, and you have no real problems.

Life is expensive. In 6 months or so I will be £23k in debt. I can sleep with the fact that i downloaded a game that I would never pay money for in order to get a little R+R and escape from the issues that are cropping up im my life atm. Wait til you get a little bit older, we'll see how you sleep.

This isn't about the game. It isn't about whether it's Final Fantasy 12 or Spongebob.

You are helping to 'in effect' take away the livelihood of someone else. Now that is wrong. You're happy to cut costs to improve your lifestyle and to save money, but by doing so you may infringe upon another's lifestyle.

Lastly, age has nothing to do with this. It's just about respect.

@Eksdee -> maybe you need to take a rest from the internet :( It makes you angry no? :D Oohhh and i'll give you a buzz in ten years to see if my life is comfortable or not yah? :)

Oh jesus christ mate you are going to get such a shock when you crawl out of your mothers womb and realise the world is a difficult fucking place to get along in. But that's your problem. I wish you luck, you will most deffinately need it.

No mate - the problem isn't age - it's the attitude of people like you who are growing up into adults (and some adults who already exist).

You're attitude is 'if i'm in a bad situation, I can exploit others.' That is a pathetic attitude and it is not 'part of growing up.' It's a trend which has started to develop within the world. I know from first hand experiance my parents aren't like that so it defiently isn't how you put it. And guess what - they're older than you - so stfu you have no experiance ;).

Like I said before - it bottles down to respect. Just because you're in deep shit, doesn't condone the right to loss respect for others and to exploit them because of your status.

That is further backed up by your inability to argue against my last point.

Edit - Average UNI Debt is £19,000. If you're at Uni, and aged 20, how the fuck have you racked up so much in such little time?

enjoy the ignorance while it lasts. trust me, you'll look back at the things you're saying now and cringe. how anyone your age could ever make these arguments with a straight face is utterly beyond me, how can you possibly speak so assuredly of something you have no experience of? enjoy not having any responsibilities while you can. i sure miss it, and that's why it is frustrating. i honestly hope you ARE comfortable, you'll be in the minority. just realise how insulting and pathetic your statements are to people who work hard day in and day out to scrape along, while you find it in your huge heart to buy your gf a £5 cinema ticket. big man, big man.

No Bugz my "inability" to argue against your points comes from a sudden lack of care. I'm glad you think you're going to grow up perfect. I was the same as you about 4 years ago. Things change. I don't feel like saying things over public forum but if you like I'll PM you and give you a prime example.

To the rest of you out there, I don't "excuse" myself for downloading the game. Piracy is wrong, end of. I simply don't care anymore. I have bigger things to worry about.

The thing you don't get Nikon is if everyone followed your footsteps for downloading games illegally - game designers would be in the same situation as you are now -> with debts etc. to worry about.

There's always a consequence of an action tbh.

I know my life won't be rosy red. I know I'm going to come out of Uni with a heck of a lot of debts but then I don't see that as a right to punish others.

Anywho, have we killed this discussion now? Quite a lot of posts in one hour tbh :D

sorry we all cant be a rich faggot bitch like you bugz.

I work hard for the money I spend and so do the guys making movies/games/etc.

Why not steal a car then instead of going to "Sixt" to rent one? The "I have no money" argument is deep shit. So what, go work and earn some money, can it be that hard?

I refuse to be judged with e-vigilantes :) Downloading games is wrong, true enough. How many wrong things have you done today? Ever watched a clip from a copyrighted show on youtube? I'll just bet you have :) Sadly that makes you as bad as me. Anything else is just haggling over the price.

No sorry, I never watched a 1.5h movie on youtube. Copyrighted show? No sry, the extraits from shows I watched are not from pay-TV. Also there is something like a quote-copyright, which means you can take out scenes of a show, as long as it doesn't get too long. I think if the industry thought youtube was bad they'd do the same thing as with Napster....bring it to court and get it closed (or a pay service). Also pointing out that others do something wrong doesn't justify what you do yourself. <insert generic example of me running around murdering people>

Did I ever do something illegal? Yes I did, but I thought about it in the meantime and came to the conclusion, that it was shit, so why am I all of sudden not allowed to pass that on? If everybody had to discover bronze for themselves, we'd still live in the stone-age. You might find some burned discs in my room, but those I found myself have gone to the bin.

My parents are not rich, but I'm trying to manage with what I have. I work a few nights each week to cover my expenses and I can proudly say that I spent a good amount of that on CD's and DVD's. Some of the movies aren't that good so I payed to watch them once, well, bad luck. If I loose my job? Would suck for me, but I already have something in mind to do then.

Now please don't give me the "you're so young" shit. I've done a side-job since the age of 14 and distributing advertising stuff is not a dream job when you're running around at -10°C or worse in winter and at 35-40°C in summer. Life might suck, but if I wanted something I managed to get it somehow. I just imagine how I had to pay my first internet connection from my own money. So what, I had to check how much I was online and my parents didn't pay a single cent. No money, no internet, it was that simple. I never had as many games as some of my mates, but at least I can say that they were originals.

Ah well, I guess arguing about this is flogging a dead horse, but still I'd like to share my opinion and I think the software dev. guys here will agree.

Anyways, as i hadn't answered due to Bugz needing a reality check, Im of mixed feelings on this. I could hundreds and hundreds of DVD's etc, however I will still download some things. There certain things that you can no longer buy that are available to download, so if you want it then you got little choice.

I only download something if I had no intention of buying it in the first place, if it something that attracted my attention then i will buy. Hence the recent purchase of supreme commander. However if I thought it wasnt something that i be interested in but someone said to me it was good then I would download and try it. If it really was any good then I purchase it as soon as possible. So often people that wouldnt have received anything from me actually do because I have previously tried it from the download.

Some people arent in a situation where they can afford what they want, with the way youth are now days if it a choice between them downloading it or using violence to get it then I go for the first option. But then I have got a sour view of the world circumstances :twak:

And the "get a job" thing doesnt always hold up, because people can be working every waking hour and due to their necessities they cant afford to do anything entertaining. I know I have periods in my life like that and Im sure that I not the only one that been in that position. And if they need to download something to get them through that period then so be it, as in the long run most people will feed money back into the industry when they can.

I just wanted to reply to this, because it get's tiring...

Stealing a car, or a dvd even ain't thesame as downloading. When you steal a car you actually take money out of someone's cash (be it the owner, the insurance company, the dealer, or the manufacturer). You litterally take something from someone.

With downloading a movie/game/song you don't actually take something from someone. You just don't give him something either.

It's not thesame, it's a false analogy.

This doesn't mean I'm talking it right, because gameproducers need to make money aswell, but I'm not gonna pay for a game I finish in a few hours. I'm not gonna pay for all the rerun-like games. It's all thesame nowadays. There hasn't been a good game in years.
The games I thought were worthwile, I did buy. There just aren't that many worthwhile games out there.
I bought Day of the Tentacle, the 11'th hour, 7'th guest, riven and myst. I bought Dune, Need For Speed II, DAoC. Some others aswell, but those games were worth their money.
I'm just not going to hand out money for any of the 13 in a dozen games that you can find on the shelfs today.
Same with music and films. I'm very willing to pay for good films and good music, but I'll be damned if I'm going to shelf out money for another new marketed unoriginal girlgroup of EMI.

bugz, you do realise that the game developers (who, as you pointed out, have families to feed and movies to pay for) are paid when the game is finished, despite the commercial success of the game? you make a shit game that sells 100 units, you get your salary, you make a game that everyone buys, you dont get any extra money!

please, think of the poor companies like EA or THQ (who i actually respect as a publisher) who wont make a large enough profit if some spick downloads their game!

:p

Specify who you're talking to please :p

Btw Infa, you're a hardcore pessimist ^^ There are also nice new movies that come out and there are also cool new games. I have to say though, Titan Quest and Heroes5 were my last ones (not counting LotM) but then again they pretty much filled up my playtime, so it's ok. Ah no, I bought Zanzarah from some 2nd hand online shop cause I couldn't get it elsewhere and I must say that this game rocks =)

@chodax, yes :p I didn't think my initial remark would have such an influence =) But once it was started I thought I might aswell post my full opinion :p

£3.75 in Manchester :D

£7 for the cheap cinema on the motor way before getting into Glasgow town, looking at more if actually go into glasgow. TIcket prices just keep rising and as they know people will pay it if they want to see film they will keep doing so... guess that why people more likely to download films they think may be good, and only go to those they know thye will like.
