Ah, the old whine about how the canteen's not what it was. You sound like my Dad, he moaned progressively about it for 20 years. When I worked a Humber on my MSc. project, it was clearly the best canteen in the world (it was like 25p for a fucking steak!), so I told him to shut up and stop moaning. Didn't work though.

I'm sure income can be justified as either profit or turnover. But, assuming Willier may or may not be referring to BP's 2004 results, it's profit. And that's £8.7 billion profit, not million.

A company I used to work at decided to save money by getting rid of its in house canteen - we used to go there every day for half hour then back upstairs to work - it had 3 seperate restaurants including a chip shop

When they got rid of it we all started to go to the pub everyday instead and took twice as long for lunch - bet that saved em a lot ;P

Like PCG says, the company in question is ConocoPhillips, and just to clarify, thats $8.19billion PROFIT.

We actually get free lunches, 3 course etc, but we now dont get a bread bun (even though you can have a soup starter) and you cant have a drink

Perhaps I shouldnt grumble. Until recently, all the coffee machines were free, so anyone (including contractors) could get free drinks. This has just been changed. Staff have been given a key each with 15 credits on to get coffee, contractors have to pay 20p a cup Apparently a saving of £250000 a year......
