You sure it was not just stunned, and the stun ran out of something? I've never seen that happen ^^

No, it does not intercept while messed. Never ever seen it happen, and tested it aswell. However, even regular str/con, dex/qui debuffs breaks messes on pets, and ppl tend to spam such spells.
