Throddy, what is the highest powered air pistol, rifle or general firearm I can buy without a licence?

Something that repeats would be good. I don't want to kill burglars and trespassers, just scare the shit out of them and maybe put an eye out.

Any ideas?

12 ft llbs is the most powerful you can have an air rifle without a firearms certificate, and 6 ft llbs for a pistol.
To qualify that statement, they must be below that mark, so 11.9 or whatever. Lots of rifles can do that power these days. For a repeater, a pre-charged gun is needed. See my jolly imformative webpage for full details.

I did it when I was bored .

Thanks Throd,

questions:

a) where should I buy such weaponry?
b) which is best for killing pikeys from the top of the stairs?

How easy is it to get a shotgun licence by the way? I sort of live in the countryside in Staffordshire, but I'm not a farmer or anything.

You can get a shotgun licence, its fairly straight forward. You simply apply to your local firearms office. The bloke will then come round your house, to interview you, and check you have a proper safe and everything to store the guns. It took me 13 weeks from start to finish, but some police forsces are much faster. Note, you CANNOT say you want a shotgun to defend your house, you will definately not get one! Just say you want it for clays or something. Beware though, shooting clays is rediculously addictive, I love it and do it every weekend.
At the moment you can still buy air rifles online (this is about to change) , check here and here and here for some nice stuff, all those shops are very reputable and honest.
A pre-charged air rifle is going to set you back around £400-£500 in total !

My Mossberg 500A 12 bore pump action shotgun. This gun tends to be frowned upon by a lot of shooters, but I like it. It looks so mean Im almost suprised pigeons dont just die looking at it.

Its Lemming of the BDA, from Monty Python. I saw the title, and the song jumped straight into my head.

Mate its awesome :) Its a bit longer than my Mossberg, which looks a little bit odd, I dunno,
PICT0004-large.jpg

that IS exagerating the length in that picture (story of my life ... ) but that will make it even easier for clays and other stuff flying through the air :)

It's definitely going down on the "to do" list in the next year or so, clay pigeon shooting really appeals to me.

How much does one of those immense carbon black looking guns cost?

That Benelli retails at £809.00 .I did want a Beretta to be honest, but they dont make any left handed guns, so they can piss off!
If you are right handed, you can get something like a second hand Beretta Urika for £400-£500 easy, a nice gun. Most semis use gas from the shot to eject the cartridge though, the Benelli has a system using the recoil, which is nice, less cleaning, and less jams too so Im led to beleive.
This M2 also has a recoil asorbtion thing in the stock which could be useful, Ill have to wait until I can try it .

Yes, it's an ex-tropical storm up here at the mo - middle of June and wintry showers were forecast over higher ground.

The weather is like winter, just more mild; when it's this wet and windy and zero degrees, it's a problem.

I laughed off the midges thing before I got there, but oh my fucking god they are awful. I have red blotches all up my arms from them. They really are horrid things.

I love the scenery though.

We stayed by Danoon.
