All it takes is 1 engineer with the right service access and it's game over.
It just shows immaturity in the crypto exchange IT space.

Couldn't happen where I work if you had a malicious dev sat on our network...

More robust controls needed.

To be fair, Google are losing out because AI is meaning they can't push shite to people, in the same way they did before.

Thankfully, the arse is falling out of advertising, I am sure they will find new and intereting ways to spam and scam people.

It's not they can't, just that they haven't figured out how to yet.

Google have irked me by updating the Google One bundle I was on. It used to have 1tb of storage, plus Nest Aware and Fitbit Premium. Now it's just storage and some AI nonsense, and I have to pay for the other separately.

I've resubscribed to Fitbit as you get 3 months free - then I think you can cancel and get a other 3 months etc. not sure about Nest tho.

Isn't that on top of them bending the knee to the US gov already?

Aye, they were also in a joint $300 billion deal with Amazon for AI I think.

On top of the AI deal, Democrats are pushing to not bailout failed AI ventures, though, I think for now it's only startups but may spread to AI as a whole.

He's not wrong though...
Only if you want a future where nobody has any computing power at home and every time you want to do something you have to pay to direct some AI agent somewhere to do it for you and you're at the whim of whoever controls the systems as to what you can and can't do. Fuck that.

On top of that Nvidia have been making a push to do exactly what he's whining about and get more compute out of data centres and into homes and offices with the DGX/RTX Spark & DGX Station systems.

Altman is just a megalomaniacal weirdo who wants everyone to do away with their computers and rent the time from him instead. His vision is dystopian as fuck and he can go straight outside and play with the traffic.

That's exactly what him and NVIDIA want, they want a future where they can just get you to subscribe for a top end PC and I can tell you exactly how it'll go if they get away with it

It'll start off cheap

£50-100 a month for a top end gaming PC, then once you've got a lot of personal stuff saved on it and game accounts locked to it etc it'll gradually increase

Oh, we're increasing our sub fee by £50 at X date, if you don't want to pay it then you lose all of your personal shit (not to mention they'd have access to EVERYTHING to sell to advertisers etc)

then before you know it you're paying thousands more per year than it would have originally cost to just build one yourself

Fuck. That.

oh nah, I agree, he is Musk - all of them seem to be absolute nutters.

All i'm saying is that he does have a point that people using it to play games/non 'productive' purposes are 'wasting' it.

That is if you subscribe to the notion of 'hard work will set you free'

The amount of AI that is actually productive is highly questionable.

Apart from medical advancements and science advancements to help push humanity in the right direction, I honestly don't give a shit about anything else AI can do. It fucks the environment, puts massive strain on energy infrastructure and causes illness to people in the vicinity of datacentres.

Edit: Video for context about the illness part - there are many other videos also showing such things

Why is using the RAM for entertainment purposes wasteful? It helps people unwind, de-stress, interact with friends, socialise. He is totally fucking wrong that people are wasting it and does not have a point.

To be clear, I don't like it either, but it's the reality.

Why would a government give a fuck about people unwinding/de-stressing/socialising against having superior AI models/and or getting a couple of GDP growth in there.

We're in unprecedented times - computers were only as good as the person that's sat before it, it's changed, it's all about *insert Kylo Ren* MOORRRRREEEEEE now.

I can absolutely see restrictions coming to computers outside price.

Then maybe I don't actually see it as doom and gloom as all that - we've already given over music and film to streaming services, why not do the same for games/CAD/other graphically intensive things? I think the only reason it's not become normalised is due to ISPs being shit.

You'll find the ability to de-stress is fairly important to the economy through purchases and mental health.

There are restrictions and that is price, there is no need for any other.

You may have, my 17 TB of video files and over 100 GB of music means I don't really rely on streaming services, which is fortunate as they've become more fragmented and expensive.

Full games streaming has been tried a few times, they just not really managed to capture much market share.

What AI could in theory do to help humanity, what they provide and what it seems quite a few use it for are mismatched.

There are many issues always just over the horizon for AI, at some point they'll be at the door.

I think most of these billionaires aren't geniuses, or even particularly clever. I think they're probably sociopaths who have gotten lucky by being born into wealth and being in the right place at the right time. They all love the smell of their own farts.

The AI cunts are particularly bad. Notice how Claude has recently been modified to not allow reverse engineering of software? So it's ok to rip off all of humanity's previous work, but the instant it affects rich people, it gets stopped.

Google recently closed assistant and forced Gemini onto people. It's absolute fucking dogshit as an assistant. The only thing I use it for is removing my foot, or my bike, from spherical images I upload to google maps.

But it's going to hurt everybody.
So what? It's already hurting everybody. And because, if all the other recent bubbles are anything to go by, between this and the next over-hyped technology at least we'll get a few years of normalcy. We'll also stop having to hear the words AI in every advert or any time those CEO's open their mouths.

I don't think it'll work that way @Zarjazz. What will happen is consolidation (which tbh is probably not great). But the tech ain't going anywhere. The upside economic capture possibilities are too great.
