Um why is the BBC using old English? Had to look up the word and nowadays it is considered a spelling mistake. I want my licence fee refunded.

Buh?

Oh, threated - saw the file name haha

We cancelled our Capita License 2 weeks ago. Awaiting the first letter. If we could pay monthly we would as there's maybe 1-2 things a year we do want to watch live.

Guess Arr is the future.

It was glacier collapse I understand? That's why such volumes - ice dam broke.

Global warming. There's no suggestion of the nepalese playing with anything.

1000 people missing :(

2,000ft piece of glacier apperently fell 10,000 feet into a river causing 200m high waves, basically a Tsunami on land.

I mean, it's been going on forever anyway, no doubt it's making it worse, but when you look at their architecture and stuff it's obvious they always build knowing that their buildings won't be around for long.

Pretty nuts way to live..

You mean continuing to sign off on housing that's below sea level and/or in flood planes?

Then we whine about government not paying / insurance not being available when people's houses flood.

I object to spending taxpayer (my) money on idiocy, but it doesn't seem to be stopping us...

Nah. Wholesale glacier retreat is very recent, and hugely sudden. You only have to go to France to see it. Living memory. A lot of these houses / settlements have been built before global warming massively ramped up. And the ramp up has indeed been massive.

I meant natural disasters in Nepal generally tbh.

Yeah but those "natural" disasters are rapidly becoming less natural.

Of course, if you define manmade input as "not natural". This sort of wholesale glacier collapse wouldn't be happening without incredibly rapid global warming. If the warming was happening on natural timescales then we'd have time to rectify. But this shit is going to happen a lot.

Apparently you're right and that even after accounting for population growth glare is being complained about more and resulting in some accidents. What we should do is make sure new LED's that get fitted to cars emit light in the "warmer" range - like the old halogen lights - rather than the brighter ones.

Multiple benefits from that.

However, a little bit of me says she wasn't driving to conditions and managed to spack it into some parked cars. But yeah, easy functional fix above. Could be rolled out across Europe very simply. You just change what you're manufacturing in terms of LEDs.

On a straight road, perhaps, but there's been a few times where I've gone around a corner and been hit by SUV lights (some of which also track you for a little bit which makes it fun) and not knowing what's around the corner and I certainly was 'driving to conditions', but if we're suggesting that 'driving to conditions' is to expect to be blinded by headlights, then maybe I wasn't.

I think the problem is bigger cars - SUVs/Trucks etc, their lights are so much higher and I drive a hatchback so even when there's one behind me I have to activate 'dickheadbehindmemode' on the review mirror.

I just find it's weird it's been a problem for like 10 years now and it never comes up as an issue which is super easy to fix.

Yeah, the driving to conditions is to expect it.

However, yeah - it's an easy fix - just change the warmth on the LEDs. It means replacing every LED, but it comes with multiple benefits. The SUV/truck thing isn't an SUV/Truck problem - it's still a colour temp problem.

Problem is - it's simply not killing enough people for governments to care. So why would manufacturers go to the expense of changing. From a selfish PoV it would be much better for me if lights were warmer - numerous benefits in wet wet wales...

Sure i'm jumping to conclusions, but isn't it about time we do something about new LED headlights? Especially directed ones which is the stupidest shit.

Perhaps it's just me but I have never really had an issue with car headlamps other than poorly-aimed ones, and auto-dimming mirrors take care of those.

Drivers who use full beam when I'm cycling on a dark road at night however - they can fuck off.

Grim stuff in Nepal, nightmare fuel footage of flash flood - that really puts the power of nature into perspective

Well, some unfortunate news I got early this morning. My step-dad was on his dream trip to climb Everest and we all thought he wasn't affected by this. But the travel agency have informed his family that they've recently learnt that his travel group were delayed at Chinese immigration which is exactly this area and they can't contact the group anymore. But because communication to the area is so bad they have no idea if they left and are trapped in the surrounding hills or if the worse has happen.

They couldn't care less about the place they live in, let alone the wider area. It's all the immigrants fault though, or whatever.

Man. Sorry to hear that. Anyone able to give you updates on when they expect to be able to have basic comms up?

Not a clue and it's only made worse because of all the restrictions in place in China controlled Tibet if they did make it through to that side - every video that has appeared in the news and media have come from the Nepal side of the border.
