Fucking AI, one thing that has done is sending computer component prices through the roof, oh and no doubt increased energy costs.

Oh yes. We're offering to run AI datacentres, which is the worst deal. We sell them loads of our cheap electricity - which is subsidised by the taxpayer as we'll have to build lots more offshore wind than we need for our housing and more traditional industry - and we don't get to benefit from the output of AI itself. We're just getting rinsed, in our bills, for running AI for America.

Good job there government.

Soon all the investors will realise that hardly anyone will pay for AI. People who use it to create moving old postcard images, or pics of dogs playing tennis, certainly won't pay. And it'll all go tits up.

These billionaires have so much power they honestly think they're geniuses. They're pretty far from that. Roger Penrose is a genius. Elon Musk is just a businessman.

I like stuff like this:

which is AI-focussed but more leaning towards research. Built next to a uni, doesn't require any additional power infrastructure and recycles the vast majority of the water it uses for cooling.

I've seen some horror stories in the US like Meta (iirc) getting all the way through building the shell of a "normal" datacentre and then deciding to repurpose it for AI but it needed the buildings configured differently - it was cheaper for them to tear the brand new building down and start again. Maybe it wasn't cheaper, maybe it was just quicker. They're all throwing so much money at it, it's insane, and local governments are falling over themselves to offer incentives and tax breaks to get them to build in their towns (the justification being that if they don't, some other town will) - it's fucking over the local infrastructure/employment and they're flouting zoning laws for fun. All the construction workers descend on these towns from all over the country like locusts and occupy all of the accomodation, meaning locals can't even find places to live that they can afford. Then, when the construction's done, they'll all up and leave again and move onto the next one.

xAI's solution to get enough power for one of their datacentres was to install a load of methane-fueled turbines, with no permits or pollution studies, and they're literally poisoning local residents.

There are so many stories of residents getting fucked over because their local government would prefer the quick buck from these companies moving in and they're not even going to be contributing to the local economy when they're up and running - it's not like they produce anything that's sold locally and they've all got insane tax breaks as incentives.

Won't it just, it might even surpass the dot-com bubble. We'll just to wait and see. No matter what happens it won't be the people at the top that will suffer.

So. Follow me.

This:

Iran's mission to the UN said Tehran "stands ready for dialogue based on mutual respect and interests", but if pushed, it wrote in all capitals, it would defend itself and "respond like never before".
....same article...

"Hopefully Iran will quickly 'Come to the Table' and negotiate a fair and equitable deal - NO NUCLEAR WEAPONS,"

So, we de-capitalise Iran but leave Trump's rantings untouched?

Is this like a really gay version of when we put out IRA messages on our news but dubbed over them so we removed any of the force of their voices?

Are you sure they didn't mean just that bit was in capitals?

I like to think there's some proper 1940s chaps still at the bbc who are horrified at Trump's use of language and grammar.

No. If anything the other way round.

I meant, remember when the IRA was on the beeb and they'd always censor them and have some english person saying their words - the same words, just spoken by an englishman.

Do you think Auntie has to censor Iran? In the same article they quoted Trump saying "yadda yaada, make a deal NO NUCLEAR WEAPONS!11!1!oneleven".

So why don't they just let Iran go "hey, if you bomb us WE'LL FUCK YOUR SISTER!!1!!!1"2456"? Instead of Iran said "hey, if you bomb us we'll boff your sis" (thelastbitwascapitals).

I'm not raging. I just noticed it and thought it was interesting and I'd point it out... :(

Just watched Predator in 4K (50 GB file size) on a 4K TV with full surround sound.

I very much recommend it 😁

Well they did that because the Tories enacted a law that forbade the broadcast of IRA voices on radio and TV.

Yeah, I know!

So did we pass a law that forbids verbatim reporting of what Iran says?

I would not be that bothered if the Iranian regime, and it's sadistic, cultist military were yeeted off the face of the planet by large American bombs, to be fair.
