On PFAS, aside from a tendancy to flip to oppression, what annoys me most about governments is this:

We know PFAS are pervading and destroying nature, have fucked our water supplies, are killing us - yet no government has banned them.

Not even for things where we have easy, already-made alternatives. E.G. Non-stick pans are still being produced. Why? I got rid of ours years ago and bought cast iron and carbon-steel cookware.

The companies who produce teflon-coated pans should be getting their share prices trashed as we ban them, and companies who produce safe cookware should be getting a massive windfall as we switch.

But governments have done dick with even the easy stuff.

That article above - those people have found out they're fucked and can't do anything. We're all affected, but how many of us will find ourselves in a situation like that?

My friend said yesterday outside his flat, some boy-racer in an Audi tried to overtake a fire engine with its blue lights and sirens on, and ended up smashing into the back of the fire engine. The fire engine was fine. The Audi was a write-off. An ambulance arrived, paramedics checked the Audi driver over, then the police cuffed him and drove away with him in the back.

Talk about grasping at straws..

Hi Ofsted could you change inspections please because it's causing people to commit suicide and with trusts its making people have a 90k job then the next day they don't have a job.

Yeah but what about house prices?

If it puts people in negative equity then that's a serious problem @Gwadien. But yeah, I understand your PoV.

Parents need to know whether schools are shit or not though. Rating schools and putting them in special measures is clearly a course of action that turns underperforming schools around. We shouldn't be worried that telling a school that it's underperforming is going to result in suicides. The facts should be full, frank and fair. I don't know enough about it to know whether it's fair or not - and that seems to be the thing. If it's fair, and you tell a head teacher she's doing a bad job, and she kills herself - then whilst that's a genuinely very sad state of affairs that's on her tbh. If it's unfair, that's on the state - and much much worse.

You need to get over your 90k jealousy though. Plenty of HENRYs about.

I'm talking about head teachers who get immediately sacked if they have a poor ofsted, because trusts want immediate results. Then some will rotate heads for a couple of years then pass the school onto another trust to rinse repeat, it's not really fixing things, it's a bit like football managers, but they don't usually have mortgages etc.

That didn't happen under LA control.

I actually dont know why you'd want to be a head, there's immense pressure coming from so many directions it's absurd.

Education needs reform and we should be looking to Europe for inspiration, not fucking China.

Couple of things here. I'd want to know what percentage of heads that get immediately sacked without being given time to turn things around. If it's an overwhelmingly large percentage then that's indicative of a poor system, but in some cases it'd definitely be the right thing to do.

And as for it not happening under LA control. Yep. Which is why we made heads more accountable.

If you want the big boy jobs then make sure you can wear the big boy boots. With power comes responsibility. You should see how cut throat the private sector is. And they aren't holding the future of hundreds of children in the palms of their management abilities.

Been playing Black Mesa for a bit of HL1 nostalgia.

Started out *really* well. Like HL always was.

Then they've gotten so self indulgent. Level design is nowhere near as good as Valve's - of course, I wasn't expecting it to be - but the sheer volume of shit they've put in there is meaning it's gone from an enjoyable romp to a drag, tbh.

I kinda want to finish it, but after a few hours bouncing around fighting round after round of what was at first really cool mixed warfare I'm now thoroughly bored.

Gonna take a hot tub break then try again. #firstworldproblems ;)

Wait, I thought Black Mesa was as true as possible to the original?
