Having been to London a few times, I can only say that I'd never bike if I lived there. Simply wouldn't feel safe. Might be that I am not used to the opposite traffic orientation, but the lack of cycling paths would have me killed in an instant riding my bike home drunk from a night out... I tend to fall asleep and swerve a bit. Still no accident!

I think @Tom and @Scouse would like to revoke your lycra licence, you're giving them bad press.

It's fine

No it isn't, it's fucking shite. The road is lovely and smooth. The path is narrow and bumpy as fuck. I'll take the road at 20mph thanks, you bimble along at 5mph to your heart's content.

Doesn't look bumpy to me. Not for a proper bike.

Only saw 1 cyclist on the way into work this morning - who promptly went through a red light and nearly got flattened by a lorry going through on green. But of course, this never happens...
You didn't see it. Tom hasn't approved your seeing things he disagrees with.

Nobody at any point has said cyclists are perfect. I explicitly condemned the guy in the vid that kicked this all off.

However the "Them and us" is simply down to jealousy that car users can't do what bikes can. Nothing more, nothing less.

If you ride bikes, you soon change your opinions on the subject. Must be something to do with walking a mile in another man's shoes or something...

Riiight. So cyclists aren't perfect yet you seem to pin the blame for attitudes on the road squarely on the motorist. To be expected however, considering the typical fog of self righteousness that follows your typical cyclist everywhere they go.

And I'd really rather not walk a mile in a cyclists shoes. They're probably all sweaty, and full of that cream they have to use to cool down what remains of their testicles.

You really can tell the difference between commuter cyclists, and cyclists who also pretty much live it.
Which do you find worse?

Won't catch me in lycra, and rarely on the road. Like I said, too much random abuse from motorists, people swerving in to you because they think it's "funny" etc...

My new (well, it's 25 years old) frame in the spray shop, I should have it in my hands soon:

It's an original TVT Carbone frame, carbon/kevlar construction tubes bonded into aluminium lugs. It will eventually look like this, although I'm not as fit, good, cool, fast or skilled as Mr Lemond.

But that means 5 years playing golf. I think I'd rather just die early.

I can see why spending a few hours out in the sun, slightly half cut socialising with people would be unattractive.

"with people". Such a simple statement. So horrifying when applied to golf.

Wow. Impressive generalisation there! I mean sure, there are some arseholes who play golf (I can think of a couple at our club), but they are remarkably easy to avoid - just don't play with them?

Does seem a bit unfair to single golf out though for it's arsehole element. I'm trying to think of a sport that doesn't have a selection of people to be avoided, and I'm pretty much coming up empty.

Nah, not everyone is bad. Just people who join golf clubs and people who play golf to get on at work. Everyone else is fine ;)

No, you don't.

We've ridden the path alongside the coastal road several times this year. There's a nice new pub, The Sparrowhawk, at the end by the bypass. It's fine, never fell off once, didn't need too stop. Had I needed to stop that's fine, I have brakes (and a helmet).
The alternative is to ride on the road with cars, lorries and buses going past at 60mph. I don't consider that safe at all. Regardless of "who should be where" I don't think putting myself or Mrs Yuck in harms way is particularly clever. But then we don't wear lycra.
Aahh the Sparrowhawk, lovely Sunday lunch.
I usually do the entire trip from my home base of Formby to Mecycle in Ainsdale through the pinewoods.

I'd actually agree on some golf clubs - for instance the one I joined in 1990 (and am still there) is mostly full of posties, plumbers, traders, all fairly normal people. But if you go up the road to Trentham Golf Club it is full of the "considerably richer than yaow" set who can give golf (well anything they do in fact) a bad name. One of the reasons I would never go near Trentham GC (well that, and the fact the course is hideously overrated).

LOL my irony detector is about to explode....... not judging an entire type of person on a few assholes..... hmmm..... wasn't there some comments, oh I don't know about 1 page back, where you were doing exactly that to cyclists?

I would suggest a trip to Specsavers then, as there was also a comment from me a few pages back where I said I didn't have a huge problem with them - the rest was just winding the lycra mafia on here up.

To be fair, all cyclists are bellends.

Except for TDC, he is dreamy.

Well at least it will be easy to scrape you up and swill down the road.

Your comment shows you don't really understand cycling safety. The majority of bicycle/vehicle collisions occur at junctions - not long straight roads with good visibility.

It only takes one accident at high speed to die, why risk your life when you have no reason not to?

American football - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Things to talk about:
  • Russell Wilson being injured, will it slow down the Seahawks?
  • Brady, what a class act cunt!
  • Kapernick, this kneeing during the anthem, don't you wish they would take politics out of sports?
  • Onside kicks have really been taken out of the game with all the safety crap, i wish they would take back the rule that you can stack all the players on one side.
  • Isn't the number of great tight ends right now crazy? Even though some of them should be wide receivers... Graham, Gronk, that guy from the Cowboys...
You owe me a drink of my choice if you get laid.

Because being right is more important than being safe?

I'm afraid your comment shows what a myopic bellend you are. If you think that riding along at your "speedy" 25mph, while cars are going past you at 60mph inches away from you is safe, then you deserve everything you get.
