Finally bought my laptop. John Lewis. The difference in customer service compared to PC World was day & night. Very happy with it.

Currently performing chkdsk on my dodgy external hard drive.

You can't use a cracked MS Office under Windows 10 apparently. I'll just use my old laptop for Word Excel or use Google's free spreadsheet app online. £190. Please.

Do they still try to push Norton too?

No. Its stuff like money off Office 365, a bootable pen drive for £45, loads of warranties, dinner at his mum's for £35...

That's news to me and my version of Office on Windows 10.

If you get an older version of office it's fine, anything further than 2012 is pap anyway.

I've been using Open Office for years. Works fine for me although I'm certainly not a power user.

I bought a superlight laptop 15 years ago from pc world, it was like a very early version of the mac air.
No disc drive, still spent ten minutes arguing with some sweaty fat fuck salesman, who was trying to sell me virus protection on a disk..everytime I said I can't load it.
He just blanked my reply and repeated..do you want your files stolen by a hacker?

Been given an interesting dilemma at work - out of the blue we are being given phone upgrades. Normal choice is either an iPhone 6S, Galaxy S6 Edge, or because I'm special, I can have an Xperia M4 Aqua. Now I've currently got a full fat Z3, which I am more than happy with, and given that I won't be going down the iPhone route, do I:

- Stick with old faithful until it breaks
- Take a leap to the dark side and go for the S6 Edge.

The Edge thing is still in the "gimmick" stage I think. I've not seen anything that really takes advantage of it.

Aren't Samsungs bloated?

If it were me I'd ask for cash instead.

unless you can root and get rid of touchwiz i would avoid samsungs tbh

amusingly AVG Mobile flags TouchWiz SystemUI as adware but admits it is not removable

i have an S4 Active and im moving away from samsung for next phone, love the phone itself but man do i hate the bloatware

The edge is still basic in its use, but it's went from just being a colour for 5 contacts, to being able to open apps, it's also handy to see your notifications without having to pick up the phone.

I guess it depends if it will bring something to the table you can get use from. I'm sure the S7 hits next week.

Besides, except for stock android phones, which ones are not bloated?

@Tom taking cash and buying your own device is (in my experience) usually not an option as the company work out some nice deals with their suppliers. And sometimes the IT department have to go in and "secure" the phone for their network.

We can provide our own hardware as long as we put Android Device Manager on it, but there is no cash option sadly, so think I will stick with the Z3. Might see if they'll upgrade my Ipad 2 to something a bit more recent instead.

The missus has a Samsung Tablet and must admit I'm not too impressed, seems way too laggy for the hardware that's in it. Any other high end Android Tablets in case they can't get me an Xperia?
