I thought he vast majority of the country were against us invading Iraq and Afgan but we still went and a lot of innocents paid the price.

It is not exactly the same but Israel kills disproportionately after being attacked. We invaded a country and killed a hell of a lot of people for the same reason. Terrorists attack we hit back with a sledgehammer. The major difference is Hamas hit Israel a lot more often than the Taliban have ever hit us.
