Britain has the lowest accident rate in the world per capita and yet one of the highest insurance rates, and all you people with black boxes have sold yourselves for a short term gain that will utterly fuck you in the long run. Idiots.

That's quite a stupid statement. Britain may also have the highest average payout per accident (I have no idea if it does or it doesn't). The only way your argument makes sense is if, before taxation, British insurance companies are on average more profitable. Even then, that might be because their models are superior.

It was over £700 cheaper than any other policy for me. I get my no claims after 10 months rather than 12. I get a further reduction if I "drive safely". If I don't qualify as a safe driver, I still get the first two benefits. If you drive like a cunt (as in hitting 100mph on the motorway), you get thrown off the policy. Fine by me. Why will it utterly fuck me in the long run?

If it's an option rather than being compulsory there's absolutely nothing wrong with it.

When you put 1-2 tonnes of metal capable of doing 100odd MPH in the hands of a fuckwit, dashcams and black boxes should be mandatory tbh. Too many people think they are invincible because they are driving.

Because things like these always do eventually. I can't wait for the first person who's car gets stolen, taken for a joyride at 100mph, the box invalidates the insurance and they then have to have the argument to prove the car was stolen and not being driven by them. The other way of looking at it is it will fuck you when we all have to have them by law and we all still pay the same price for insurance.

Ileks, because it sets a precedent and the insurance companies are offering a carrot on a stick now with lower fees to get people comfortable with the idea. You can get 10 month policies without a black box too.

I really can't stand mine, and I can't believe you've argued against dagaffer on stats and facts without checking any of them. The UK insurance industry are money grabbing wankers.

Im sure theyll be hacked in no time...send a perfect driving style and bang on mileage stats back to their computers
The main problem I have with them is privacy and freedom...insurance companies are saying you have to pay more not to be monitored every second you drive...which is basically saying you have to pay for freedom from now ons

Not really they are saying we offer a much cheaper policy BUT being tracked 24/7 is the downside. Until I am forced to have one or my insurance goes up 50% unless I agree to have them I don't mind. It give people a chance at cheaper insurance and a way to prove they don't drive like a cunt. And anything that shops arseholes thinking speed limits are suggestions rather than law is ok. Getting kids into good driving habits is in all of our best interests.

No that's exactly what it is, you are just trying to change the truth by describing it in a different way.
I'm tempted to quote old Jefferson
Those who exchange freedom for security..blah..blah..blah,
this time we are in is the edge of a precipice.

But it's not. Not until my price goes up for not having one. While they are a way to get cheaper insurance by being tracked and they remain optional they are fine. If next year my insurance is the same £300 with a tracker or it doubles to £600 if I don't have one then you will be right.

By getting a discount now the insurance companies are effectively trialing the technology and eeking it into the public arena bit by bit so it gains acceptance by osmosis. Then when they consider it proven they will declare that having a box is the norm and anyone without will be paying more.

Which is how it is at the moment just sold the other way round that you are getting a discount with the box still means you are paying more without one.

Getting them to value their privacy would be more in our best interests. What next, to get medical insurance you must wear a wristband that monitors you and if your heart rate ever goes up too much it cancels your policy just before you have a heart attack.
