They need to drop any closure on relationships...the guys should be back to square one at the end of each episode and
the hopelessnes of their situation needs to be maxed out

But then watch the first 5 episodes 5 times each in 22 weeks every year and see how long it takes to get stale. The show has to move on and while focusing on the girls has caused me to enjoy it less it has bought in more female viewers so that is the way it is going.

Someone explain how businesses get taxed, is it profit or the money they make over all, and do smaller businesses get taxed less or is it a flat rate? Gogo

Afaik it's on profits. That's how Starbucks etc don't pay tax they make out that they don't make a profit in this region so don't pay anything.

Obviously they pay employers contribution on NI and other taxes. But not based on

As for amounts

To put it in its simplest form, yes you pay corporation tax on your profits if you wrack up a load of losses they will affect your profit and this decrease the corp tax you pay. Buying up excess stock or expanding will lower the corp tax you pay because they come off your profit.

One way around that would be to buy your stock at crazy prices from your offshore, comfy tax state company and sell for a tiny mark up to your UK based company. The UK based company makes little profit and pays little corp tax but the global one makes a killing. Not saying Starbucks did that ofc! "just sayin"

I think its like income tax where the smaller the profit, the smaller the tax percentage but not entirely sure how or what they use to qualify it.

Also as a VAT registered company you also pay your VAT (Offset by what you have been billed by suppliers) so say you bill your customers 100k (20k of that is VAT) and receive invoices from your suppliers for 75k (15k of which is VAT) you pay the tax man 5k VAT

There are all sorts of things that can effect either and it would take a highly qualified tax expert to explain it properly!

Starbucks buy their coffee from a group company based in Switzerland so set the price to make sure little profit arises in the UK. This is called Transfer pricing and is one of the areas most open to abuse along with things intellectual property royalties e.g. Google us this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Double_Irish_arrangement

Corporation tax is calculated on EBIT (Earnings before interest and taxation) less certain allowances such as capital allowances (a percentage allowance on capital items/Fixed Assets purchased) and of course offsetting any losses from previous years. Often the UK Uncut type campaigners claim that this is tax avoidance either because they're stupid or deliberately want to mislead the public. Current tax rate is 21% and it will go down to 20% from 1 April 2015.

Speaking of Google, anyone believes the rumor that they are planning to take over Twitch? Personally i hope to god that they won't be allowed to. Youtube is too big to begin with, buying pretty much the only serious competitor would be a fucking disaster.

I've heard this as well.

I really hope they don't. If it happens, expect no music on streams, unavoidable and increased advertising etc.

It's not the one who buys, it's the one who sells.

It twitch guys sell it, then they weren't the kind of guys worth having around anyway.

why? The vast majority of web content is there to either advertise shit nobody wants or find itself a buyer.

That's just a counter to the google buying sh*t and ruining our stuff. Google isn't ruining anything, it's the people selling it.

I'm not saying it's bad to sell, i'd sell, probably everyone here would sell, but if people are going to vilify something then do it towards who deserve it ;)

Well, to be fair Twitch already have unavoidable ads. Only the first batch of channels managed to get a deal that turned off ads for channel subscribers (if you start a channel now you can't do that).

But ads and music isn't what i'm worried about. I'm scared of the monopoly Google would be getting if they bought Twitch, but thankfully US laws are pretty damn harsh when it comes to that stuff (US supreme court forced Microsoft to split up because their monopoly was to big), so it's very likely that Google won't even be allowed to go through with the deal.

The other thing i'm worried about is the deal Youtube/Google has with the gaming industry. If Google managed to buy Twitch anyway i wouldn't be surprised if the same crap starts to happen there as it does on Youtube now, with DMCA claims, take down demands and what have you.

Looks like it's happened allready, the insurance industry is considering pushing blackbox technology to all drivers and whacking those who don't with higher premiums.
As I've always said..handy today..compulsory tomorrow.
Next will be eye trackers to make sure you are looking at the right parts of the road....I guarantee this will happen and then you'll get a Police visit for looking at schoolgirls playing netball.

Actually, this is one of the few things I don't have much of a problem with because the benefits outweigh the cons.

Responsible drivers (like me) don't have to support the retards who can't or won't drive properly.
Makes it much harder to steal a car.
Potentially makes it much easier to plan roads and ease congestion.

I know there is the whole thing about surveillance but despite what the swivel headed have to say, I doubt the government much care about my weekly trip to Aldi and the butchers and my 10 minute drive to work every day.

I've got a black box with Bell. It's great - it was about £500 cheaper than anywhere else, I get my no claims after 10 months and 7% off if they consider me a "safe driver".
