Quite, here's something that i thought up after reading your post 10 seconds ago;

There is a planet of peaceful aliens, much like dwarves, who build magnificent cities and live in peace. Then along come big ships in the sky who start bombing them. Then comes another set of ships who start shooting at the other ships. Big war in sky, no contact to them. Cities burning from debree from the sky and misfires. Then second ships win and leave. This story follows a simple builders story, who tries to get home to save his wife. We end the movie on a cliffhanger when his wife and family are dead and there's a almost intact ship near his home. He looiks in sky, says a little curse, takes his toolset and walks towards the ship. Run credits.
