Actually Hitler gave people guns, lots of them. Didn't do them much good. Mao and Stalin took guns from people they'd been fighting in a civil war, so the analogy makes little or no sense (the average Chinese or Russian peasant didn't have guns to take in the main).

Good God, why? It was a travesty that John Constantine was Americanised in the first place.

The idea itself sounds...OK, but the problem will be its an ensemble movie with a bunch of characters that most people don't know, without the lead-in movies the Avengers had. The first three-quarters of the film would be (pretty sketchy) origin stories. Hollywood hasn't really shown its got the bottle to simply get to the plot without laboriously establishing the characters, and in this case you really would need to show why Boston Brand can occupy people's bodies, or what Etrigan is etc.
