Well, I've finished Chopin's Ballade No. 1 in Gminor. All (!) I need to do now is bring it up to speed (especially the Presto con fuoco section!). My piano teacher is very happy. On Wednesday she said I was her best pupil (which is nice to hear ).

She's offered to teach me Rachmaninoff's Second Piano Concerto, which she played with an orchestra at the Moscow Conservatory (where she both studied and taught for 30 years). Its her favourite piece, one of my favourites, but its tremendously difficult (as is all Rachmaninoff).

I'm in two minds. I really want to learn Chopin's 4th Ballade, but its structure is so complex and technically diffiuclt (even the bits that look easy aren't!), I'm thinking the Rachmaninoff is the easy option!! I may take the coward's route out and get the Schubert Impromptu's done first (a bit of light relief !)

This is true. If you order one in the post from within the UK, and don't take the thing outside your property, and never shine it at planes or cars and just use it to burst balloons and matches in your back garden you'll be absolutely fine.

Its the idiots who walk round with them in their pockets that scare me. One can only hope they're far too cool to use goggles (you really should wear special protective glasses for laser of that magnitude) and blind themselves.
