The thing that's very wrong here is the police's refusal to investigate a clear case of fraud.

If they're not investigating even this level of crime then all sorts of crime is going completely uninvestigated. (Like any theft from an average person's home, ever - or cyclists having axes thrown at them (true)).

Initially.

I reckon the police response of 'its not a crime' is just like a layer you have to get through, a bit like when you ring up call centres.

What. Until the BBC had done their own investigation and found fraud and identity theft plod refused to get involved.

Stop apologising for them being unable to carry out the very basics of their job.

Yeah, it's fairly offensive when you see shit like this too tbh... (Apologies for the essentially Daily Mail article, but meh, point made.)

I know it's a daft story, but could you imagine if there was a wild cat on the loose and someone got mauled?

Besides, the previous story is a civil matter.

Yeah, but when we live in a country where your house gets robbed and police response is 'meh' it's kinda a bit silly.

Identity theft and fraud is a civil matter now?

Awesome. I'll try to defraud people left right and centre, knowing there is no criminal comeuppance.

You an ex cop or something?

As per the report, fraud is a civil matter, a criminal prosecution may come out of that eventually.

I am not going to bother explaining the difference between civil and criminal law, because it would be a waste of time. But you either want the police involved in civil matters or you want them to start carrying out duties other than assigned to them. Who knows.

Which branch of plod would you like to investigate what will likely be hugely complicated legal bumf, instead of the property lawyers that will get involved in the civil case? Just so we are clear.

I mean... apart from the identity theft and fraud, you would kinda expect the Police to turn up to a 'I've come home and all my shit is gone and there's strangers here' purely on the basis that it's likely to escalate into a situation where it probably will need police involvement anyway.

No. Dead 100% wrong.

Apart from thats not "per the report" (so there's a comprehension fail here) - Fraud is a criminal matter.

Moving the house from land registry ownership back to him is the civil matter - and the police, rightly, said they couldn't help there. < No complaints with this.

But Plod refused to investigate the CRIMINAL matter of identity theft and fraud. Until the BBC intervened and "Bedfordshire Police's fraud squad" started investigating.

So no. Fraud isn't a "civil matter". He had his identity stolen and his house sold from underneath him. And plod didn't give a fucking shit until the BBC took up his case. And guess what! When pointed out they weren't doing the fucking basics of their job, they started investigating.

With the "fraud squad".

I am not going to bother explaining the difference between civil and criminal law
Good. Because it's clear you don't know the difference between what's criminal and what's civil.

I'd like the FRAUD SQUAD to investigate fucking FRAUD when asked.

Oppression!
Post away tbh. But there's been a reasonable request to not get people sacked if they browse this forum at work :)

Funnily enough - actually it went through my mind that we could do away with the NSFW tags now I work from home. It was quite liberating! But then I remembered a salient fact: there are 'other people'.

I know, right?!

Anyone got Android 12 ?
My phone just offered it to me.
I'm tempted to stay on 10...unless there's a really awesome reason to upgrade

Isn't Android 12 the release where Google are doing their usual thing of getting rid of useful stuff and removing the Android Auto display on the phone, and making you use Driving Mode instead?

I got it yesterday. A few things. They've changed the wifi icon to something a little different, so it now takes you to mobile/wifi data. The on/off animations are quite cool. I don't recall if this was the case on 11, but you can get the notifications (which are also hugely different) by swiping down from anywhere on the screen. Same with the icon drawer and up.

The lock screen clock is AIDS. But the lock screen notifications are a lot better. And there's new stuff on the lock screen to get to Google Pay and Home. Quite simple to use. And there are nice little touches, like if you have 3 icons in a group, when you expand that group the animation is really sweet.

You guys think he's joking but I've actually seen some of @Deebs rack installations before. :eek6:
To be fair some of mine in the distant past were not far off this either.
