Supernatural sidequests still keep the story going to a degree, unless it's one of those wacky episodes, you know the type, usuallyin SG-1 started with an upbeat piano

Come to think of it, SG-1 was probably the only show that could do a filler episode without any annoyance. The story was lose enough to allow it.

Actually. I liked the take on Groundhog Day which Supernatural did. Star Trek the New Generation also has many good sidestory episodes. SG-1 as well.
