Although I am a little confused, the fire was reported at 12:30ish but people living there only evacuated at 4? I thought in the case of a flat fire everyone got out sharpish?

I'd say the management company is going to hang for this. It sounds like a shoddy refurbishment with flammable materials, which people have complained about repeatedly. No alarms went off and no sprinklers activated.

Also reading that residents were advised to stay in their flats in the event of a fire. Haven't seen that confirmed though, I suppose we'll need to wait for the inquests or public enquiry for that.

Staying in your flat is actually a good idea in buildings like that. Internal fires shouldn't spread so quickly, so your flat's fire cladding will keep you safe. Opening doors and windows just lets the fire spread more quickly.

However, that presumes that the building isn't coated in flammable cladding, as may be the case here.

Seems like it was an old building and the refurb was cosmetic; doesn't follow that all tower blocks have the same issues; newer ones certainly shouldn't.

This is why so many 70s council blocks have been demolished in the first place; too difficult to meet modern safety regs. What's the betting this place was refurbed rather than knocked down because it's replacement cost in Kensington & Chelsea was too high for a public authority to pay for but impossible to sell because there's no room for affordable rehousing anywhere else in the borough?

And what's more important is the spook factor, who's lining up for any tower flat after seeing people throwing their kids out of windows.
It seems the entire three top floors have all died.

It seems the cladding was to make the tower look better in the upmarket area...they covered it in fancy burny plastic for the posh peoples view, saved money on fire safety.
You couldnt make this up, and as I said, now they are going to have to inspect every cladded tower block in the country.
When the bodies start piling up and the burn victims appear on telly, this is going to be huge...everyone in a flat higher than two floord is going to demand proof of safety..and loads will come short.
