"The Royal Navy Bomb Disposal's Explosive Ordinance Department personnel assessed the grenade as being a previously disarmed World War One artefact, posing no danger to pupils or staff."

The grenade - a family heirloom - was later blown up in a controlled explosion.
no harm, let's blow it up anyways.

Why can't things ever go "jsut so"?

Got work to do a freelance design(high concept).
Two weeks in, they asked to wait a couple of days for feedback(as per usual).
This turned into three weeks of near-non-communication etc.
After said 3 weeks, I asked them; ok, contiue the project, or you pay half of original pay for work done(was supposed to be a month gig).
Now they contact me that they want some more work, with that half pay.

I ofcourse told them no, that the half-pay is for job done and if they want a finished product, they pay the full original price.

Now they're whining about it.

Grah...

Yeah that's pretty much the undertone.

Pay half now, more work means original pay.

They don't seem to think that keeping someone waiting is something they should pay for, while i'm no different from a regular employee.

You pay for the time, how you spend it, your call :p

Yes i'm a hooker :D

When we got in the cab at JFK and told the guy where we needed to go (hotel in the centre of Manhattan) the first thing he did was punch the info in his sat-nav

Aye, same for most miniscabs in London. You tell them "St James's Square" and they go "what? where". Unless you give them a zip code they're useless. God bless London cabbies. Best in the world.

it boggles the mind how much they know, and with London not being gridded like most cities it must be a lot harder

Its incredibly hard. I know quite a lot of Knowledge boys and loads of cabbies. The amount of stuff they have to learn is amazing. For their exams - called appearances - they basically have to learn every road and street within a 6 mile radius of charing cross - and whats on every road & street (shops, museums, police stations, theatres, embassies, statues, tourist attractions, hospitals, squares, etc etc). Just to give you an idea of the scale it runs from Alexandra Palace in the north, to Crystal Palace in the south, Acton in the west, and City Airport in the East. Hats off to em.
